This appeared in my pigeonhole at work today. I’m assuming it was put there because it mentions computers, and therefore is obviously my responsibility. Anyway, as is always the way with these things, it’s a scam.
The company, TLAC Ltd, at Kemp House, 152-160 City Road, London EC1V 2NX (address included for the benefit of Googlers) appears to offer “thankyou prizes and awards”, not unlike Survey UK. As before, I hunted around on the internet, and found this message on The Guardian’s website.
To cut it short, you ring up a premium rate number to claim your “award”, spending more money on the call than the value of the “prize” you actually receive. Note the footnote for the digital camera (the cheapest of the “prizes”), which states “all electrical items require a payment of ¬¨¬£6.50 which includes insurance and delivery”, thus grabbing more of your cash for rubbish.
So it’s not a “prize” or and “award” – it’s a lottery. A rubbish one at that.

mum got 507705 code this morning with an ambrose wilson order. i told her it was a scam and immediatly phoned ambrose wilson and lied saying that my pensioner mother spent over £9 phoning this place, and they had a duty to protect thier customers etc etc….was told that they would take her off the third party mailing list. i said that wasnt good enough and expected them to refund the £9 odd phone call money….they said that they couldnt do a refund so i then said that i would take £9 off of the bill my mother owed and that no-one in my family will be buying anything from them again. Was then told that they would refund £5 (dont ask where they plucked that number from) i said this wasnt good enough….they then said i would have to send the phone bill if i wanted the whole £9 so i eventually backtracked and excepted the £5 refund as i could never produce the phone bill…..Maybe i m out of order, but i say serves them right.
GOT THE SAME LETTER TODAY FROM AMANDA FISHER WITH CODE NUMBER 507705 HOPE SHE READS ALL THESE REPLYS AND IS ASHAMED OF HER SELF
How can these people operate and get away with it? The likes of me and you couldn’t, so why are they “immune” ?
Hi, I also received a letter from Amanda Fisher, award no 507705. I have won £25,000, £250.00 Argos vouchers, MP3 player, New car, £750.00 cash or a TV. When will these people learn that we are not all gullable stupid people and stop wasting their time and ours. So Amanda Fisher you can keep your cheap MP 3 player if it ever existed and hang your head in shame.
I received the TLAC today from Amanda Fisher with my award Ref: TLAC/AF/£25.000
Confirmation of your Thankyou Award. I don’t really know this people. This is too good to be true. Thank God I Google, to find out more about TLAC scam.
Received the same letter with easy life catalogue. Its a shame that these people are allowed to scam. Same code 507705 and cash prizes etc. Very tempting, thank God I googled it first. Will be passing all this info to my Mum.

I received my ‘award’ letter with my Easylife catalogue. Thank God, I too, googled TLAC. I couldn’t sleep so got up to work on my computer – like you do! I started to fill the claim form in to get my award code, then googled TLAC. Guess what my award ‘code’ is! Yup 507705!!! Hey ho! Thanks for saving me the cost of the stamps – I refuse to use premium-rate phonelines. Will tell my friends and make the letter available to Trading Standards. As an older person I feel really stupid because I almost fell for the scam!
I received the above letter exactly the same today, luckily I nearly got caught with a BMW car scam the other day, so went straight to Google.

I received exactly the same letter from TLAC this afternoon. I’m going to try to contact Martin Lewis as he would have a field day with this scam. Something seriously needs to be done about this.
Iam the 163 to write,received mine yesterday, guess what,binned it straight away. These scams have been about for over 4 years now. My immediate reaction is to boycott the company that allowed it as all of you should be doing.
I contacted The Office Of Fair Trading regarding the scam and they sent me a letter back saying that they would investigate. Heard nothing more from them.
I recieved the same letter today and of course alarm bells sounded, so went straight on the web to find out more and found all you folks!! Its disgusting that this scam is still going on after the first e.mail was put on this site (september 2008). I really hope more people try to find out info instead of lining the pockets of these crooks!!!
Hi Ihave received a letter saying I have won a25000, car, 750, 250 tv, and mp3, this Amanda asked me to call to see which one is my price. I was suspecious, so I used a land line which doesnt work. then I googled and find you guys thank you. But how they scam like that without any laws stopping them

I doubt Amanda Fisher is her real name. Reputable companies should not be allowing this to get to their loyal customers. What a load of croc! I couldn’t understand why she would be wanting to thank me by giving me £25 000 when I’d never heard of her, bought something from her or anything! There should be a place this can be reported to and stopped!
HI i also received a letter change of code thou 507705 seems same numbers just different order this came from studio cards so i am returning the order and will never use them again seems the only way to stop this Bitch Amanda Fisher.

same here received with studio catalogue award code 507705 when it sounds to good to be true it probably is…. how people sleep at night conning people like this is beyond me….
My wife recieved a package from studio cards,inside was a letter from TLCA “fantastic” said my wife,have a look at this,ok i thought and read it through,then the SMALL print,£9 phone call and £9.95 for postage an insurance £18.95 total, hold up a min roy, lets check this out, thanks everyone who have written in, after reading through a lot of your letters have torn my letter up,we will be letting studio cards know about this scam, lookout on facebook will let my friends know, once again thanks everyone
I myself have received a letter from TLAC, the award code 507705…. and a code printed in the bottom right of the letter TLACt4. I mean whats it all about…?
One more thing..Amanda Fisher…. Seems to be the Awards Allocation Manager…..!!
