Let’s Play! Mrs Mopp

This will probably become one of a series of posts with the theme of “Dodgy C60 Tape”. In the 80s, us computer owners all had C60 tapes full of pirated computer games. I’m not proud, but at the time it didn’t seem wrong. I’m not even sure where my C60 tapes of games came from – they just appeared every now and again.

One tape in particular sticks in my mind. I should really dig it out and get the full tracklist from it, but I do remember many of the games on it. One, which I’m fairly sure was the very last game on Side B, was Mrs Mopp. I’ve since played other games similar, but at the time it was unlike anything else I had for my Spectrum.

The idea is to tidy up a room, using a tool to collect matching items, then depositing those items in the appropriate receptacle when full. Use the basket to collect clothes to place in the washing machine, use the tray to collect mugs to place in the sink, and so on. The twist is that you’re unable to pick up – and therefore pass through – anything that doesn’t match the tool you’re currently carrying.

As you play, Mrs Mopp becomes increasingly tired so she can hit the wine (in the top left) to revive her. Don’t drink to much though, as she’ll become uncontrollable!

The emulator used is Qaop/JS – a rather spiffy HTML5 Spectrum emulator.
