Rhythm Thief and the Emperor’s Treasure (3DS): COMPLETED!

Yay! Really plowing through these partially-started, not-quite finished games at the moment! Rhythm Thief was excellent. One part Layton, one part Sega Rhythm Game Compilation. Bonkers plot, twists, lots of nice pictures of Paris, clever rhythm games (some of which were somewhat hard!) and some OCD screen-tappage. What more could you want? Apart from the clearly planned sequel, of course. If you have a 3DS, you MUST buy this. If for no reason other than to tell Sega that this is …

Rhythm Thief and the Emperor’s Treasure (3DS)

This is AWESOME. It’s like Professor Layton only with the puzzles mainly replaced with rhythm action games! Like, I don’t know, Ouendan Adventure or something. They’re fun rhythm action games too, with some catchy music. And a lovely graphical style. I’ve managed to find the crown, break into the police station, and get out again, so far. I’ve had a couple of run-ins with Napoleon (which is bound to turn out not to be him, surely?), and rescued a girl …

Games I’ve been playing recently

Mutant Mudds (3DS) It’s really hard now. I’ve done all 16 main levels, some of the secret levels, and collected all of the diamonds so far. I’ve done the first three Moon levels, but the last one? Nightmare. It’s so difficult! It doesn’t help that you can only have one power up at a time, and you really need all three to make it through. I’ve swapped around which ones I’ve been using, but it’s too hard with any of …

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy (Demo) (3DS)

Final Fantasy games don’t interest me much any more. They lost their way back at Final Fantasy VII, and most spinoffs like the Crystal Chronicles games have left me indifferent. Aside from Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, of course. And that Chocobo game for the DS. Er, anyway. As a result, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this Guitar Hero-ish screen tapping rhythm game featuring music from Final Fantasy games, none of which I’m likely to recognise. Thankfully, it was …

Stuff wot I are bin playing recently

Another round-up post, I’m afraid! Batman: Arkham City (PC) Despite the hassle it is to set up (all those cables and adapters and begging Windows to let audio go out the HDMI port please), and the fact it’s a PC game, I’m still enjoying it. It feels like driving a car when you know one of the wheels is going to fall off at some point. You enjoy the ride, but are on edge that at some point you could …

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations (360)

You know, sometimes it would be much easier to just read what the achievements are, and how to get them, before starting the game. Saves hours of repetition after completing the game, if I’d just thought to, say, do a few thief tasks or something at the start and then the achievement would just pop up through normal play. In this case, thief looting. If I’d unlocked it earlier in the game then I could use it to loot 50 …

Fillum review: Bulletproof Monk (2003)

I seem to recall that round the time of release, Bulletproof Monk got some good press and pretty decent reviews. So imagine my surprise when not only was the film not really what I was expecting in terms of content (I think I mixed it up with Equilibrium), but also it wasn’t as good as I thought it was supposed to be either. I’ve never been a fan of “mis-matched partners” films. Here, Tibetan monk Chow-Yun Fat and New York …

Eternal Sonata (360)

This Chapter 2 is a bit long, isn’t it? I’m still on it now! I found the boy at the bottom of the cliff, eventually, and then stayed the night at his parents’ inn. The next day I went Castle Forte (having another, more successful, “jam” session on the way), but couldn’t get in. Instead, some bloke called Tuba who looked like a cross between Ramm-Man from He-Man and Birdie from Street Fighter Alpha decided to fight me. I won, …

Gauntlet (360)

There’s a sale on at XBLA at the moment (although it’s only two days long), with Gauntlet reduced to just 200 points. Rude not to, eh? It’s a lot harder than I recall. So hard, in fact, that in single player I think Level 8 is impossible, with Questor at least. You can continue as many times as you like, but you’re returned to the start of the level rather than just carry on. I know this is probably how …

Wario: Master of Disguise (DS)

Yes. The reviews are a little off-putting, but I’d tried the Japanese version a while ago and enjoyed it, so I bought the US version a while back and it arrived today. It’s better than I remember, mainly because I actually some idea of what is going on. Wario enters TV programme, steals magic wand owned by master thief, become a thief himself, and can transform using different disguises that give him different powers. So far, I have the thief …
