The amazing blog ring phenomenon

The amazing blog ring phenomenon

Ok, so it isn’t that amazing.¬¨‚Ć And it’s not really a phenomenon.¬¨‚Ć Or even a ring.¬¨‚Ć But “The blog” is too terse and pretty non-descriptive.

I’ve been noticing an odd thing recently.¬¨‚Ć I subscribe to a fair few blogs (by subscribe, I mean I have their RSS feeds plugged into Google Reader) and over the last few weeks I’ve found that seemingly unconnected blogs have the same people comment on them.

Of course, I’m a link between these blogs, but I can’t see that being the reason. No, the reason is that there are only a handful of people who comment on blogs, and between them, they read every site in existence. That’s the only conceivable explanation.

  1. I get the same thing happening, but I think it’s just because you’ll send some people you know links to a couple of posts on a blog you read, and if they find it interesting and like the same sort of computery stuff then they’re likely to follow links from that blog to others and so on, leading to you having a lot of overlap between reading lists 🙂
