Prefferred sitting positions whilst gaming. I favour legs underneath arse, leaning forward over pad aka “The Circulation Destroyer”
This is an easy one to answer: I just sit normally on the sofa.
Until about 18 months ago, we had a tiny sofa with massively tall arms. When I was sat, the arms were almost as high as my shoulders, and as I like to rest with my right elbow on the arm, it wasn’t very comfortable, especially with a controller in my hands. Especially with a Wii U Gamepad, which is roughly the size of Albania, even more so if I had to actually look at the screen on it. Of paramount importance when we went shopping for a new sofa, was the height and angle my right elbow would be at when playing games.
So that’s how I sit. Correctly.
When I was 17 or so, my “gaming area” consisted of a massive 27 ton woodgrain CRT TV sat precariously on top of a writing desk, with my Mega Drive in a compartment underneath, ever worried it’ll be squashed by the telly. In front of this was a gap, and then an ottoman with my Amiga on it, and a bedside cabinet with the mouse on it. All topped off with a RAF accommodation-spec dining chair. Chic, I’m sure you’ll agree.
It was uncomfortable. That chair wasn’t suited for sitting on for long periods. The ottoman was too low for comfortable typing. The mouse was a good foot higher than the keyboard. The ergonomics alone no doubt featured in a chiropractic trade magazine, and is probably why I now resemble an Igor. Remembering this, pretty much any sitting position is better, although anything that destroys my circulation – however exciting for a short period – is not something I can tolerate. And leaning forwards? What? Don’t do that.
