Something both old and new this week. And it’s the same game! How does that work? Read on!

Play

pokemon yPokémon Y (3DS)
Seven gyms down, the new Legendary Pokémon found (and caught), and I’m off to the final gym. I’m going to assume the beaten main bad guy is still going to pop up at some point to be beaten again, but I don’t know for sure. Almost 30 hours on the clock!

This is so slick. I thought Y was a big improvement over the last one I played (probably Quartz for the GBA), but this improves even further with great graphics, new features, a simpler interface, and of course – Dugtrio with blonde hair. YES.

Pokémon Go (iOS)
Not a lot of decent Pokémon this week, and the gym I took early in the week lasted just a few hours. Interest waning a bit, I think.

That’s right – the original Game Boy game, which I bought this week on the 3DS Virtual Console. I’ve never played it before so it is, technically, both old and new. It’s also not what I was expecting, being much more like Zelda II: The Adventure of Link than a side-scrolling platformer, which is what I thought it was going to be. It was on offer, but that doesn’t really explain why I actually bought it.

Want

The usual, but now some of them are with New Now Official Names: Zelda (Switch), Sonic Mania (Switch), Pokémon Sun/Moon (3DS), Virginia (PS4), Paper Mario (Wii U) and a Nintendo Switch. Although I’m not sure I want a Switch, but I do need one to play the games for it. It’s pre-ordered, anyway.

Bin

The Nintendo Switch. It doesn’t look powerful or innovative, when I was hoping it was one or the other at least.

Expense

Gargoyle’s Quest (3DS) – £2.01
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team (3DS) – £10
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (3DS) – £10
