The Very Quick Megadrive Ultimate Collection Review Selection

A list of all the games (from Wikipedia, sorry) and some indepth reviews of each title: Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle – great! Alien Storm – rubbish! Alien Syndrome (arcade) – OK! Altered Beast – rubbish! Bonanza Bros. – OK! Columns – Not as good as the Master System version! Comix Zone – great but hard! Decap Attack – amazing! Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine – great! Dynamite Headdy – not as good as it used to be! ESWAT: …

The games of 2008

For four years now, I’ve kept a diary detailing the games I play. Part of the reason was to see how many games I buy (and to reduce this number), and how many I complete (and to increase this number). 2008 saw a drop in completed games – 33 compared to 61 in 2007. I don’t think this is bad, when you look at the games I’ve been completing. In 2007, there were quite a few shorter games, including 5 …

de Blob (Wii): COMPLETED!

I’ve played this a lot today. Which is evidenced by the fact I’ve completed the final four levels (and hence the game), getting a gold on each, and each taking (on average) an hour. Yes, so I played it a lot. It started to get really tricky near the end, especially as it threw loads of tanks and turrets and inky walls and bottomless drops and all sorts at you. The final level, on a space ship, also had a …

Song Summoner (iPod)

Oh. Em. Eff. Gee. It’s Final Fantasy Tactics. Only for the iPod. And just £4. Absolute BARGAIN. Well, it’s almost a Final Fantasy Tactics game. There’s less depth, you can’t change jobs, and there’s very little levelling up, but in essence, it’s almost there. So far, I’ve played it for an hour and done just one mission. The mission took about 5 minutes to win. The other 55 minutes of play was going through my song collection and generating characters …

Toki Tori (Wii)

Yeah, yeah – I wasn’t going to buy any more Wii downloadable content. Partly because of the nasty experience I’ve had losing full access to £400-worth of Xbox 360 DLC (all Microsoft’s fault), but mainly because my Wii is full and I don’t want to delete or move anything until Nintendo develop some proper sort of storage system. But then I saw Toki Tori on the new-today WiiWare shop. I had to move two N64 VC games, and delete my …

Half-Life 2 (360)

Played loads of this today, and finished the whole buggy section. It took longer than was probably necessary as I stopped at every junction, house and building to see what was inside – usually ammo I didn’t need and baddies I certainly didn’t need. The buggy section, like the airboat bit before it, seemed to go on far too long. It was more fun than the airboat bit, and you actually felt like you were getting somewhere in it (whereas …

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune trailer

Hmm. About a year ago, this PS3 game looked really good, and I was a little jealous that it wasn’t coming out on the 360. Having seen lots more of it now, and realising that the “you’re just some average guy” premise is nonsense, it just seems like a cross between Gears of War and Tomb Raider Legend without actually being as good as either. Anyway, here’s a trailer:

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (360): COMPLETED! AGAIN!

Only this time with less emeralds (none, in fact – I didn’t even try) and more speed (achievements for completing Chemical Plant 1 and the whole game quickly – GET!). I then had a go playing online in VS mode. Oh dear. Whoever hosts, wins. This seems to be a common thing with these Sega XBLA games (see also Streets of Rage 2). If you’re not hosting, there’s a second delay between pressing a button and the action being carried …

1500 Games

That’s a lot of games, isn’t it? With the purchase of Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD for Xbox Live Arcade today, I’ve reached 1500 games in my collection. Actually, I’ve got more than that. Lots more. Something in the region of 200 more, in fact, but they’re piles of Spectrum and C64 cassettes and I’m yet to begin the daunting task of cataloguing them all, so they don’t yet count. Lets look at some fun facts: If the games …

Returning to speed cameras

A few months ago, I posted a couple of rants about speed cameras, specifically the new average-speed cameras being installed on a stretch of dual carriageway on my way to work. Well, they’re in and the road has been extensively resurfaced and finally fully reopened. Reopened to MORONS. And me, of course. You see, they’re average-speed cameras. So there are two cameras, about two miles apart, and they calculate how long you’ve taken to travel that distance and so determine …

My other blog

You know, even though there’s a link over there on the left, many of my readers don’t seem to realise I have a second blog. One which is some two years older than this one, and is updated more frequently. It’s my Gaming Diary. Since I’m what you could call an, uh, avid player of games, I set up a diary to track my progress through what I play, and to try and encourage me to stop buying so many …

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (PS2)

Or rather, Vice City Stories of Blur and Brown. The game looks horrific. I mean, Canis Canem Edit didn’t look great, but this? Awful. It’s like someone took the original Vice City and smeared it with dirty hands. I suppose that’s what you get for porting a PSP game back to the PS2. Anyway. So I’m Vic Vance, Lance Vance’s (from the original) brother, and this seems to be set a while before the original. I’m a corporal in the …

Breaking the TB barrier

This is me using gparted to clone and expand the partitions on my old work machine boot drive to my new one. I also upgraded by data drive too, and kept the old drives as backups. So now, I have a staggering 1.5 terabytes of storage on that PC. I remember just ten short years ago when I bought a “cavernous” 4.3 GB hard drive, ad thought that would last me forever.
