Golden Axe (360): COMPLETED!

It’s another 400 point Sega game, also arriving on XBLA today. And I completed it on my first go. As the woman, whose name I’ve forgotten. I keep wanting to say “Blaze”, but that’s Streets of Rage. The bosses in this are just as easy as I remember. Dash attacks make short work of them, provided you can time everything right, but having other baddies floating around at the same time complicate matters. I think I lost 15 lives overall, …

Pac-Man CE (360)

You know, I never really liked Pac-Man all that much. It was OK and everything, but I wasn’t one of those people who could play it over and over trying for better scores and stuff. I rarely touched it in the arcade, and much preferred Pac-Land over the original, which I realise is probably blasphemy. So why, then, have I not only bought both Pac-Man and Ms Pac-Man from Xbox Live Arcade, but now I’ve bought Pac-Man Championship Edition too? …

Eledees (Wii)

Out of the kitchen, and into the garden, and out of the garden and into the garage. And then back into the garden. And kitchen. Then everything started floating around, and I had to go back to the bedrooms and study, and then into a secret room. And then back in the garden and finally the street! After that, there was another boss battle, which was pretty easy once I’d figured out what to do.

Assorted 360 Demos (360)

I played through a bit pile of these today, so thought I’d bung them all into one post. Blacksite:Urgh. I don’t really like FPS games. I also don’t like squad-based shooters, and marines-vs-aliens shooters are, in my opinion, dull. So imagine my joy when I realised that Blacksite is a shad-based FPS with marines shooting aliens. I could barely contain my excitement. Colin McRae’s Dirt:Where I come from, “dirt” is a synonym for “poo”, so this game is basically called …

Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland (360)

Still working through Story Mode on this. It seems a lot easier than I recall, but then, I haven’t reached the bloody hard biking bit yet. I’m dreading that, as I’m sure I almost exploded with actual rage last time. So today, I walked the Vans competition, got Iggy locked up, joined Skate Club (the first rule about Skate Club, is you don’t talk about Skate Club), impressed Tony Alva, wrecked the Big Wheel, and reached the Oil Rig via …

Speed cameras – money, not lives

Gosh. Two rants about speed cameras in a row. How petrolhead of me. There’s a road in Norfolk called the A47. It is, in fact, only one of two major roads in Norfolk, and runs east and west through the middle of the county. It’s a road I drive on almost every single day. The A47 is almost unique in this county, as sections of it are dual carriageway. That’s as close as we get to a motorway round these …

Tales from the Future #1

I was having a discussion with someone over IRC today (his name is Mal Franks, and he is Wrong), with regards to HD film formats, and it escalated to me predicting the future for technology in general. As is common, I’m sure. So profound were my statements, that I thought it best to publish them here so that in ten or twenty years time people can look back at what I wrote and say I was better than Nostradamus. Or …

Mighty Final Fight (GBA)

Wow! This is great! I always kind-of liked Final Fight, but thought Streets of Rage to be somewhat better. I did wonder if a super-deformed version, on the NES, would actually be any good. And it is! It’s a bit simple, but there’s actually more to it than the original game, as there are more moves and you gain experience points and levels improving your strength, health and move-set. It’s a bit hard though, as a continue sends you back …

Saints Row (360)

With the game complete, I set about doing some of the activities, and trying some of the achievements. First up, destroying helicopters. Picked up three homies, and sat outside a Forgive and Forget shooting stuff. The police soon turned up, and I killed them, and eventually police helicopters arrived. After shooting several down, things got a bit hectic so I nipped in for a quick confessional, and the heat was off again. 13 helicopters down, 37 to go! This will …

Saints Row (360)

After a few more (accidental, in one case) hostage “missions”, I set about doing the next two Westside Rollerz missions. The first was a race, of sorts. I didn’t have to win, however – I just needed to get close to the Rollerz and taunt them enough to make them use a nitro boost. Which was rigged to make them explode, of course. Obviously. Then I had to attack some garage owned by Donnie, and Lin (a Saint, but undercover) …

Saints Row (360)

Spent about 20 minutes car collecting when I first started playing today. I now have about 60 cars in my garage (including a SWAT van, a load of Five-Os and a couple of ambulances), which gained me the “50 cars owned” achievement. I then went and bought all the clothes I could find (which wasn’t really very much), and then went back to doing Mayhem missions. Which were fun, as always. After that, I decided to play online for a …

Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi: The Genie & the Amp (DS)

This game was super cheap at Play Asia, so I bundled it in with another game. I love Puffy (the band), but am not keen on Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi (the cartoon), so it was a bit of a split decision to buy the game. Cheapness won out, though. As usual. And, well. It’s very odd. Imagine crossing Streets of Rage with Guitar Hero. And then coating it in Viewtiful Joe and Alien Hominid stuff. It’s a side scrolling …

Big Brain Academy (DS)

Yet another new DS game, look! This one is similar to Brain Age, in that it’s more of a brain-expanding puzzle game than a real actual videogame. It differs in that you don’t really need to play each day, there’s more variety in the type of games to play, and each game has three different difficulty levels to play at. Also, it doesn’t track your progress (although you do get a running total of your scores, of sorts, and a …

P.N.03 (GC)

This game has been sat on my shelf for about 18 months now, I think, and I’ve never even opened it. I thought I knew about the game too – jump around as a german woman and shoot robots. Dodge into alcoves, do cartwheels, etc. But there’s more to it than even that. There’s a combo system in place, which encourages you to quickly defeat baddie after baddie. This gives you stacks more points, and what do points make? Prizes! …
