Hi DeKay
Thank you so much for your brilliant blog. I bought a Philips freevents 11NB5800 around Xmas time. I had loads of trouble right from the start trying to run my old progs on Vista, even my printer wouldn’t work properly. So I did what most others folks seem to have done, and tried to install XP. I got past the first hurdle eventually, and slipstreamed the SATA drivers onto a boot disk, and promply bricked up the machine. It went back to PC World, who replaced the hard drive. I then experimented with VM Ware, running XP as a virtual machine alongside Vista. This was far from satisfactory, being slow and unreliable. I decided to try and live with Vista, but it is such a pile of wombat’s doo, I have spent months trying to get it right and failing. I was on the verge of chucking the unit in the river. Following your instructions I now have an XP system, and all my software running sweetly, done in about a day. Great stuff, thank you. The only thing that isn’t now working is the audio. The drivers installed OK, but there is no sound. In Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, it says “No audio Device”. Did you have this problem ? Anyway, this is not a big problem to me, I am just delighted that the unit is now useable.
Cheers
Russ
