Ubuntu Linux on 11NB5800:
I’ve installed the Ubuntu “Hardy Heron” 8.04 distribution on this Laptop. Everything except the wireless drivers seems to be pretty solid. Wireless networks only reconnect about 1 in 6 times at re-boot and take a long time to connect (2 mins) for encrypted networks. I tried installing the Ubuntu “backports” as I had read that this may fix the wireless issue, but on this hardware it just lost audio support too!

Booting from the old Ubuntu 7.04 distro live CD is much more satisfactory for wireless support, but the battery life indication and glidepad side-scrolling are bugged/unsupported.

I’m still hoping to resolve the wireless support under 8.04, but if not the I’ll go for 7.04 instead and hope that the Ubuntu guys get the wireless “unimproved” back to the level they were achieving a year ago!

BTW: I used the partioning feature of Vista to shrink the NTFS partition 2 to make space for further partitions, then installed Ubuntu manually into partitions I set-up using the gparted live CD. I was too chicken to remove the restore partition 1.
