Recently installed win 7 from DVD on a perfectly working vista X 66. I chose to delete all partitions at the install screen. On reboot got stuck at Philips start up screen. Restarted pressing del key for BIOS. But machine was stalled after a few lines of text not even allowing me to enter the BIOS. However it did show error 85 or 87 at bottom right of screen so obviously it had stalled at a BIOS instruction. Panicked. After reading through this I tried exchanging the hard drive rather than updating BIOS. (A fujitsu 80Gb for a fujitsu 100GB). Amazingly it worked first time so simply went ahead with installing Win 7 from DVD. Now here’s the stranger bit I tried the X66 hard drive attached to my desktop. The BIOS stalled in attempting to read this drives information but after a while it continued on ignoring it and not loading it into BIOS. I then restarted and it saw the drive loaded it into it’s BIOS and it has been working ever since. This solution has been reported before but god knows what’s happening
