To my iMac! Yay!
On the 10th of March last year, I took delivery of my shiny new 24″ iMac. It marked the ditching of my last remaining Windows PC. Have I regretted it?
Not in the slightest. It’s still just as nippy as it was a year ago. I can do everything I want to do on it, and everything just seems so much better, easier, and even quieter. It also draws less power than my old PC, takes up less space, and looks so much better. I am loving it – still.
However, there is still one little niggling thing I still need Windows for – Microsoft Access. This is covered by having Parallels installed (I have a full virtual version of my old PC, actually), but ideally I’d like to ditch that too. The only thing I use Access for is the offline version of my games database. I did post about how great Bento was a while back, but in practice it had faults. You can’t decide on the order fields are exported in when exporting as a csv file, for one, and you can’t restart numbering on an autonumber field either. Not problems if I was starting a new database from scratch, but issues when migrating from my current database.
Aside from that, it’s all been fun. I had to ditch my old ¬¨¬£7.50 Dell printer/scanner (with a ¬¨¬£15 Canon MP310, which is much better anyway!), but that was a small price to pay.
Here’s to the next Year of Mac!
Hooray for Macs!
