How lovely is the iPhone?

The answer, of course, is “very lovely indeed”.

My previous phone was a T-Mobile Vario III, a replacement a year ago for my Vario II. To be honest, I’ve never really had a problem with it. Ok, so it didn’t really work well with my Mac (until I bought SyncMate, anyway), and sometimes it forgot to type double letters, but it was great for everything I wanted to use it for.

Or so I thought.

After using an iPhone for a few days, I can now see all the faults and flaws with my previous phone. Swapping between apps was slow. Playing music took ages. The screen resolution was rubbish (especially for web browsing) and none of the available browsers were especially quick. Most of all, though, it wasn’t anywhere near as slick or easy to use as the iPhone.

One thing I’ve always needed in a phone is a keyboard. I simply can’t type using a keypad. My Varios had great little keyboards, but you could only use them two-handed. I was a bit concerned about how I’d take to the iPhone’s touch-screen keyboard, but as this blog post will testify – it’s lovely. It’s quick to type on, and the autocorrect features are great for when your finger slips.

Another thing I love is the integrated iTunes and Apps stores. You can just buy tracks and software straight on the phone! The selection of games and apps is huge too – not the mere handful that you have to trawl the Internet to find for Windows Mobile devices.

Then there’s the text messaging. All texts sent and received are recorded as a conversation – very useful!

Finally (for now), there’s Flight Control. A simple, but incredibly addictive little game which makes excellent use of the touch screen and currently costs just 59p. Amazing.

  1. The word correction can be annoying at times if u are not typing a dictionary word. It will correct it to something u don’t want so u have to delete what you have typed and do it again. It’s especially annoying when the last word of a text message is corrected just as you hit send.

As an example, the other day I replied to someone simply “okay dokay” it didn’t like it and changed it to “okay splay”. Naturally the recipient was confused. So to check a word isn’t going to be corrected before sending be sure to put a space after the last word

  2. i have an iphone too and i think that its the best. Cant think why i would want a different make ever! The auto correct feature all ok if you touch the screen on the word that it suggests and then it disappears or you just delete the parts of the word that are wrong and then you correct it. the word should then get added to the dictionary.
