Let’s Play! Speed Duel

Harking back to last week’s post about Mrs Mopp, I thought I’d share another game from my wonderful C60 tape of Home Taping is Killing Gaming games: Speed Duel.

It’s probably the least played game on the whole tape, mainly because it rarely loaded. That R Tape Loading Error was all too frequent for Speed Duel, more so than any other game on the tape – presumably it was a poor copy. Of course, on the days when it did actually load, I was thoroughly disappointed I’d waited four minutes for a terrible and impossible driving game. The controls are too twitchy and imprecise, the other cars appear randomly with no chance of avoiding them, and the track bends too much that trying to drive round it at any speed is impossible. Oh, and if you suffer from epilepsy, don’t crash. Take a look yourself. It’s rubbish.

The controls are mapped (if you choose keyboard) to left shift and Z (left and right), space to accelerate, CTRL to brake.

The emulator used is Qaop/JS – a rather spiffy HTML5 Spectrum emulator.
