The 2010 Gaming Expenditure Horror

I’ve been tracking which games I play, on my Gaming Diary, for 6 years now. It’s helped me realise how many different games I play, and how many I complete. This year, however, I’ve additionally started tracking the games I buy, and how much I paid for them – the aim being to scare myself into how much I spend on gaming. Thing is, just knowing that it’s logged has actually made me more frugal with my spending. Not only …

Irritating and Unnecessary Gaming Clichés

I’ve been gaming for a long time. This is obvious to anyone who has perused the rest of my site (the Gaming Diary and Museum both give clues to this). I’ve played a lot of games. Hundreds. Thousands, in fact. It would be naïve to assume that, having played so many games, gaming ideas are only ever used once, and so each game is an entirely unique experience. This is, of course, not true. Some things come up all the …

TMNT (360)

This arrived today. I wasn’t really expecting much, but I put it on anyway. Four levels later (one for each turtle), and I’m mildly impressed. It looks OK, the speed and moves are pretty swish (even if there’s a lot of Prince of Persia theft), but there’s something niggly about it that makes me want to hate it. Yeah, so there’s a few camera issues, and sometimes you do moves inadvertently, (like run along a wall instead of up it), …

Tomb Raider: Legend (Demo) (360)

Finally – an Xbox 360 game which could be considered “next-gen”. Lovely visuals, certainly the most impressive I’ve yet seen on the 360, which are (I’m told) even better in other levels of the full game. It’s fun too, even if it is Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time with breasts and guns. So similar are the two games in terms of how you play them, that I pressed L to rewind time on several occassions, and the swinging-round-poles …

Some Xbox 360 Demo Games (360)

So I downloaded a few more game demos today. First off, was Full Auto, which is very much like Burnout only with guns. And a Prince of Persia-style time-rewind system. It plays nice and all, but it doesn’t look much better than Burnout 3. In fact, in some ways, it’s actually worse visually. Probably not a game I’ll be buying any time soon, sorry Sega… Then I played Quake 4. I don’t mind FPS games, but they’re not my favourite …
