Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow

This DS game arrived this morning. I know lots of people have been saying how ACEBEST it is, but I haven’t actually played a Castlevania game since Super Castlevania IV, and that was more than 10 years ago. Five minutes on the crap 3D N64 Castlevania doesn’t count (although that was more than 5 years ago anyway). Anyway, I wasn’t really sure what to expect.

What I got, was a slick, smooth, fantastically animated platformer with a deep weapon upgrade system, RPG elements, and puzzles.

I’ve racked up about an hour an a half on it so far, and am supposedly 16.5% complete. I’ve defeated two bosses (the second of which, a screen-sized troll thing who fired a huge energy beam and squashed me with his fist) was pretty difficult. I’ve made it through the “Wizardry Lab”, and am now well into the “Garden of Madness”. I’ve upgraded a few weapons, and am mainly sticking with my katana for now (although the mace comes out against foes requiring a lot of hits). I have the Doppleganger soul too, so I can swap between two sets of equipment configurations with one button. Now really sure what use it is in practice though.
