I thought I was getting quite close to the end of the game, seeing as I’d reached the lab (which I was convinced was supposed to be the goal) and beaten the big gooey thing (which I was convinced was supposed to be the final boss), and then a whole new area with new features, baddies, rock types and gimmicks opened up.
In this new region, fire and switches played big parts. Certain rocks could be burnt, opening up new paths, and switches reversed black and white rocks (and baddies). There were also special areas where time froze, and using your freeze time ability time flowed only in these areas, making for some interesting puzzles. In one section, you had to coax a flaming baddie into a time freeze area so you could push it around while frozen in order to redirect it towards some rocks that needed torching. It was surprisingly cerebral.

What was actually the final boss turned out to be a pain. He wasn’t especially hard, but he was several stages long and in each his weakness and method of attack wasn’t immediately clear. In a couple of these stages a single slip meant quick death, and all of his stages needed to be redone each time you died. Checkpoints after each would have been much appreciated. Worse than all that, however, was that once defeated for good, the game crashed at the credit sequence. And then did it again on my next attempt. And again. And again. Thankfully, it has recorded I’ve completed it as it allows me to start a New Game+, but I’ve missed out on the achievement for doing so. Odd.

In spite of those final few issues with Nova-111, it was a nice little game, using many ideas I’ve seen elsewhere in a unique blend. If I’d had known it was going to play like this, I’d probably have bought it long ago. As a PS+ freebie rental, it’s certainly better than a lot of the stuff on that service recently.
Here’s a video playlist of a mostly complete playthrough. Skip to the end for the final boss fight (spoilers!) and see it crash out!
Finished up a few games, spent a lot of money, that sort of thing.
Play
Lego Jurassic World (PS4)
100%, all achievements done! Took about 28 hours in total which seems short for a Lego game, especially one with 275 gold bricks to collect. More here.
Bayonetta (Wii U)
Which I completed. Lots of fun, completely ridiculous, and a fantastic Space Harrier reference near the end. Excellent.
Nova-111 (PS4)
What I started playing just to see what it was like, turned into a pretty good game I decided to play to completion. I wrote more here.
Lego Marvel Avengers Demo (Wii U)
Oh dear. The poor Wii U just can’t cope with this in two player, screen each mode. I know Lego Marvel Super Heroes was a bit jerky (and was one of the reasons I got the PS4 version of Lego Jurassic World), but this is really quite disastrous. Maybe the full game will be better? I don’t know – I’ll be getting the PS4 one, sadly. Seems OK aside from that though, Lego innit.
Disney Infinity 3.0 (PS4)
Look. I got it because it was very cheap and someone at work said it was great. I’ve no interest in Disney or Star Wars or collecting more figures (I’ve a pile of Amiibo and Skylanders already) but… I don’t have to explain myself to you. Seems pretty dull so far, actually, but saved simply because you can dropkick Ewoks. ALL games should let you dropkick Ewoks. More here.
Assassin’s Creed Unity (PS4)
I’m aware of the issues people have had with this, and I know it isn’t supposed to be one of the “good” Assassin’s Creed games, but it was a little over £10 and I do enjoy the series. I’m not very far in, but it seems like a better graphics version of more of the same. More or less. Nothing bad about it yet, apart from the story hasn’t really impressed so far. More here.
Want
Definitely not some Marvel characters and packs and whatever for Disney Infinity
Lego Marvel Avengers (PS4)
PS4 choice vindicated, see above.
No Man’s Sky (PS4)
When are they going to get to the fireworks factory!?
Firewatch (PS4)
I know it’s out, and after finishing off Bayonetta, I was going to buy it. Thing is, there are reports of the framerate being utterly broken so I’ve left it for a bit.
Bin
Nothing this week.
Expense
As you can see, I had a slight slip when I bought Disney Infinity 3.0, but it was only £21.99 for the starter kit. Also picked up £25 of PSN credit for £20 to pay for the Fallout 4 Season Pass before they put the price up, and £33 for PS+ after I decided to renew it.
Sega also gave out some free games on Steam too, so I’ve Golden Axe, Jet Set Radio and Hell Yeah! from there.
Oh, and £10.57 for Assassin’s Creed Unity, of course.

Just like last year, this year I took part in the RetroCollect 52 Game Challenge. The idea was to complete, uh, 52 games in a single year. Back in June, I successfully became the first person taking part to hit the 52 game barrier. But I wasn’t going to stop there.
With the challenge over before the year was half done, I aimed for 104 games. The 104 Game Challenge, if you will. For the less mathematical of my readers, 104 is two lots of 52.
This week, with just 16 days left of the year to spare, I completed my 104th game. Which game? Lego Dimensions.
Now, some might say that I’ve played a lot of very short games this year, and it’s true that a large number of the titles I’ve finished have been the generally-shorter-anyway retro games, mainly for the Master System and Mega Drive. However, that’s not only allowed within the “rules”, but since it’s RetroCollect, almost certainly encouraged.
That said, there are a few very long games I’ve completed – and gone well past completion – this year. No Man’s Sky, for instance. That’s over 150 hours right there. 80 on Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, over 75 on Pokémon Y, and 30-60 each on Assassin’s Creed Unity, Lego Lord of the Rings, Lego Marvel Avengers, Fallout 4 and The Witness.

Pingback: 104 Game Challenge - deKay's Blog
In 2016, I completed a whopping 110 games. My previous record, because of course I’ve been keeping count, was 84 in 2015. You’d think with a number like that, I’d finally be on top of my backlog, right? Ahahahahano.
I didn’t anticipate completing that many. Like in previous years, I did strive to finish the RetroCollect 52 Game Challenge (which I managed before the end of June) and then expanded that to 104 games just for a laugh (and I sorted that by mid-December), but of course I had to go and beat that too, didn’t I?
There may be some arguments over what constitutes a “game”, and what counts as “completed”. There’s no hard and fast rule, whatever feels right for a title, usually. However, normally a game is “something you play” and “completed” is “reached the final goal”, “got all the achievements” or “watched the end credits” as appropriate.
DLC and addons are usually classed as separate games even if technically they’re not – like Life is Strange episodes, or the Lego Dimensions level packs.
Anyway, here’s the full list of 110:
Fallout 4(PS4 15/01/2016)
Batman Returns(Lynx 24/01/2016)
