LocoRoco Cocoreccho (PS3): COMPLETED!

LocoRoco Cocoreccho (PS3): COMPLETED!

A short post for a short game. LocoRoco Cocoreccho was a disappointing item on the PS+ free rental list this month. Not because it’s a bad game, more because it’s was already almost free and it’s very, very short.

It’s charming though, and reminded me a lot of Hohokum. Of course, it reminded me more of the PSP LocoRoco games, but this plays much more like Hohokum than those. Perhaps this game was a source of inspiration for Hohokum?

Er, so the game then. Or “interactive screensaver” as I think it was even sold as. You vaguely guide little blobs around flowers and platforms and water, waking up other sleeping blobs and jiggling the controller to make things move. Wake up enough blobs and you can move on to the next area. In the final area, you shoot your collected blobs at baddie spider blobs. And then you win. All while the blobs sing at you.

And I won! Yay?

  1. Remember Assassin’s Creed Unity? I had totally forgotten about it. Also: lots of retro stuff again!
    Play
    Sonic 3 & Knuckles (MD)
Which I completed soon after posting about it last week. It was excellent, but then, Sonic 3 and Knuckles was always excellent – it’s the best Mega Drive game and by extension, one of the best 16bit games ever made. Yes, it’s better than Sonic 2.
    HYRULE WARRIORS (Wii U)
Played through a few more missions on the Twilight Adventure Map. I don’t think I’ll ever get bored of this.
    LocoRoco Cocoreccho (PS3)
Only just classifying as a game rather than a screensaver, this was a free PS+ rental this month and I thought I’d give it a go. It was very (very) short (and I completed it), but I didn’t feel ripped off as I didn’t pay for it.
Magical Flying Hat Turbo Adventure (MD)
Another of the Mega Drive’s very best games. I found it a lot easier than I recall it ever being but then, it was never that hard to begin with. Excellent fun levels with nonsensical baddies and stuff, loads of unused power-ups, and of course, I completed it.
    Rainbow Islands (MS)
The easiest version of the game, I’m led to believe, and I’m inclined to agree because it’s the only version I’ve ever managed to finish. It struggles on the hardware a bit, with flickering and slowdown, but it’s still a good conversion.
    Gauntlet IV (MD)
Yep – another of the Mega Drive’s greatest titles. I’m ignoring Arcade mode, which is essentially just a port of the original arcade game (good though that is) and am working through the arcade/puzzle/RPG hybrid Quest mode. It’s superb, and I’m pleased that in the 15 or so years since I last played it, it hasn’t aged a bit. I just wish I could hold down Symbol Shift to walk through walls…
Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival (Wii U)
I got lots of Animal Crossing Amiibo and Amiibo cards for my birthday, so we (that’s me, my wife and my daughter) used them to play the game. It might be a simple board game but it’s still fun. I won, by the way, which was a surprise because half way through the game I was on negative money (which loses you a Happy point each turn you’re in debt) and every time anyone rolled a six I lost six Happy Points and 600 bells. And everyone kept rolling sixes.
    Assassin’s Creed Unity (PS4)
For some reason, I just stopped playing this a while back. Something shiny must have come along. I’m back on it now, although I’ve not progressed much further yet.
    Want
No Man’s Sky (PS4) and Lego Marvel Avengers (PS4). Again.
    Bin
    Nothing game related.
    Expense
Well, I didn’t pay for them, but I got a pile of Animal Crossing Amiibo and Amiibo cards, and the special edition Star Fox Zero and Star Fox Guard pack (Wii U).
I also downloaded the full version of Lost Reavers (Wii U) despite hating the beta, but it was free.

  2. In 2016, I completed a whopping 110 games. My previous record, because of course I’ve been keeping count, was 84 in 2015. You’d think with a number like that, I’d finally be on top of my backlog, right? Ahahahahano.
I didn’t anticipate completing that many. Like in previous years, I did strive to finish the RetroCollect 52 Game Challenge (which I managed before the end of June) and then expanded that to 104 games just for a laugh (and I sorted that by mid-December), but of course I had to go and beat that too, didn’t I?
There may be some arguments over what constitutes a “game”, and what counts as “completed”. There’s no hard and fast rule, whatever feels right for a title, usually. However, normally a game is “something you play” and “completed” is “reached the final goal”, “got all the achievements” or “watched the end credits” as appropriate.
DLC and addons are usually classed as separate games even if technically they’re not – like Life is Strange episodes, or the Lego Dimensions level packs.
Anyway, here’s the full list of 110:
