Box Box Boy! (3DS): COMPLETED!

Box Box Boy! (3DS): COMPLETED!

It’s Box Boy! again! Only this time, you have two lots of boxes you can play with at once!

box box boy

It looks the same, it plays almost the same, and the hazards and gimmicks will be immediately familiar if you’ve played the original game, but because you can now spawn two box chains, the solutions are more abstract and many tricks are now open to you. Such as being able to create a tall block with one chain, then “hook” onto it with your other chain and pull yourself up. Same goes for spanning wider gaps, or generating a chain whilst riding another across a conveyor.

The simple aesthetic is just as great as it was before, and it was hard not to just continue playing the next level each time one was completed. The only down point is that I found it very, very easy. Of course, I’ve not done all of the harder levels that unlock after completing the game, nor have I even attempted Challenge Mode, so there’s bound to be more difficult puzzles there.

I can definitely recommend Box Box Boy! to fans of the original, or just those who like puzzley platformers. And it’s super cheap too!

  1. It’s Boxing Day, so traditionally a day of playing all the video games obtained on the Jesus Birthday Day and eating all the food left over in the fridge. Probably.

    Box Box Boy! (3DS)
It’s the same as the first Box Boy game, but now you have two chains of boxes to play with. It feels exactly the same, but the puzzles are now totally different. It does seem much easier, however, and I rattled through the normal worlds very quickly with few sticking points and obtaining every crown on my first attempt. It’s completed, but there are now extra stages unlocked. Definitely worth buying, especially if you enjoyed the original.
    Picross e7 (3DS)
Of COURSE I was going to buy this. Having obtained and completed every other Picross e title, and the two by-the-same-team Zelda and Pokémon themed games, it’d be absurd to suggest otherwise. I’m not far in yet, but suffice to day, it’s more of the same. Which is great!
Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair (PS4)
Up to mission, ooh, 60-ish now. Had a few troublesome levels, including one with a million Delroys (I think? I may have misheard) and a sky full of drones. That took more than a few attempts, I can tell you.
    Lego Dimensions (PS4)
We cracked open the Sonic the Hedgehog pack, which is excellent. In fact, it’s probably the best Sonic game in years. There’s a decent replica of Green Hill Zone, then the first level from Sonic Adventure, an a miniature Metropolis Zone set inside a cube. Excellent as it was, we were unable to progress past this, as Eggman doesn’t appear when he’s supposed to and even restarting the level didn’t help. Bah. So we played the Lord of the Rings “hub” for a bit instead.
    Want
I am currently overwhelmed with games. I’d like to say I want lots of things, but frankly, I’m fine just now and thinking about more just seems greedy. In fact, having seen more of the specs of the Nintendo Switch which imply that – undocked at least – it’s less powerful than a Wii U, I’m not entirely sure I want one now.
    Bin
Doing my back in two days before Christmas by simply leaning over to turn a power switch on.

  3. In 2016, I completed a whopping 110 games. My previous record, because of course I’ve been keeping count, was 84 in 2015. You’d think with a number like that, I’d finally be on top of my backlog, right? Ahahahahano.
I didn’t anticipate completing that many. Like in previous years, I did strive to finish the RetroCollect 52 Game Challenge (which I managed before the end of June) and then expanded that to 104 games just for a laugh (and I sorted that by mid-December), but of course I had to go and beat that too, didn’t I?
There may be some arguments over what constitutes a “game”, and what counts as “completed”. There’s no hard and fast rule, whatever feels right for a title, usually. However, normally a game is “something you play” and “completed” is “reached the final goal”, “got all the achievements” or “watched the end credits” as appropriate.
DLC and addons are usually classed as separate games even if technically they’re not – like Life is Strange episodes, or the Lego Dimensions level packs.
Anyway, here’s the full list of 110:
