Military Madness (Wii)

I downloaded this for the Virtual Console last weekend, but then didn’t actually play it. Well, I loaded it, got confused, and turned it off again. Today, however, I found it has an in-game tutorial! I had a quick scan of that, and then started playing. And it’s lovely. Comparing it to Advance Wars is unfair (Military Madness is years older – if anything, it’s a clone of Famicom Wars, Advance Wars‘ great-grandad) but unavoidable. The premise is the same …

Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)

My notice board says that the Acorn Festival starts tomorrow. ACES! My animals were not especially chatty today, although the not-moved-out Kabuki did want a shirt so I gave her (or him) a Blue Grid one I found on the floor. Found a fossil for the first time in a couple of weeks, not that I need it as I have them all, but still. I haven’t seen a pitfall in ages either. Perhaps the ten billion weeds have covered …

Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)

Still no decent turnip price in Cheese this week, with Nook offering me 72 bells today. I don’t know why I bother – it is hardly ever worth selling them “at home”. Bunnie has decided to stay, it seems, as she was unpacked again today. Oh well. Jay is still ill. That’s over a week now. Maybe he’ll die? Or she. It is hard to tell with some of the animals. I mean, Margie turned out to be a boy, …

Oekaki Puzzle Battle (DS)

Notice I called it “Puzzle” and not “Logic”. I realised the kana read “puzzle” (literally), and so the website I bought the game from was wrong. Anyway. I’ve not completed all bar four of the Easy Mode puzzles, of which there are 30. Of course, each Normal Mode puzzle is made up of a grid of 2×2 “easy” puzzles, Hard is 3×3, and Super Hard is 4×4. That means that, in total, there are essentially 900 puzzles to complete. And …

Oekaki Logic Battle (DS)

For a change of pace (er, or not, since I’ve just played Animal Crossing), I thought I’d have a go at some more of the puzzles on this game. I’ve now completed the first 12 on Easy. And yes, they were very easy. I did start one on Super-Hard, and thought I’d completed it. I then realised that the “grid” was just one of a 4×4 arrangement of grids, so I had another 15 to do. That’ll learn me to …

Oekaki Logic Battle (DS)

Oekaki is another new game today, and is a puzzle game often called “Hanji” or “Picross”. Basically, you start with a grid. On the end of each row and column are numbers that tell you how long a line of squares in that row or column is, and you have to fill them in to fit the rules. It usually gives a simple “pixelated” picture. For some reason, this DS variation seems to have a sort of card battle mode. …

Kouchuu Kakutou: Mushi 1 Grand Prix (DS)

Oh. My. God. It’s a beetle fighting almost-RPG with chess overtones and special moves. And there’s lots of talking. Tons of it. In fact, it’s like Super Text Fighter II just to get to the actual game. Thankfully, the combat seems to be pretty simple to understand. You have a 3×3 grid. In each turn, you each either move a square, or attack a square. You seem to have to guess which square your opponent’s beetle is going to move …

GTA: San Andreas

My first mission this session was to save Madd Dogg from commiting suicide. This was a little odd, since I’d previously ruined his career and killed him manager. Oh well. Next, I carried on with some bits for the heist Carl and Woosie are planning – including jumping out of a plane over a dam, then planting charges in the dam to blow it up (at a later date, I assume) in order to kill Las Venturas’ power grid. Yes, …

Mario 64DS

Had a quick go at catching rabbits to unlock more minigames. I realised that you actually have to catch each rabbit four times, as catching one with Yoshi only unlocks a Yoshi minigame. This could be tedious. The seven minigames I unlocked are pretty good, but nothing special. There’s a pelmanism game, using sounds not pictures, two of those grid-of-squares and touching one inverts it and the surrounding ones type games, which I hate, although most of these are pretty …
