Invade-o-Trons from Planet Q Paul E. Collins Starglider’s Review: Claims to be the worst Space Invaders clone ever made, and I would be quite ready to agree. it even tells you that there is an error that occurs quite often.BUT… it does play, and error aside, it is possible to play. Still, it is an awful game! 6/10 Dunny’s Review: This is a BASIC port of the classic 70’s smash, “Space Invaders”. And what a mind-numbingly great port it is too. …

Who’s looking at my SQL server?

Putting this here mainly for my own benefit, but it may help others. If you want to find out which NT users are connected to your MS SQL (2005 or 2008) server, and which computer they’re using – simply use this query (which you could run in SQL Server Management Studio): select hostname,nt_username from sys.sysprocesses For added excitement, if you do use Management Studio, you can display the result as text or a grid to take into Excel and filter …

Civilisation V (Mac)

You know how I don’t play computer games? WRONG. A couple of weeks ago I blagged a copy of Civilisation V (note “s”) from someone who had a spare copy on Steam. He said I could only have it if I promised to actually play it, so I did. In actuality, I’d already bought it. Stupidly, I’d tied it to a Steam account I couldn’t access, so got it refunded, but I still wanted the game. The price then went …

Irritating and Unnecessary Gaming Clichés

I’ve been gaming for a long time. This is obvious to anyone who has perused the rest of my site (the Gaming Diary and Museum both give clues to this). I’ve played a lot of games. Hundreds. Thousands, in fact. It would be naïve to assume that, having played so many games, gaming ideas are only ever used once, and so each game is an entirely unique experience. This is, of course, not true. Some things come up all the …

Echochrome (PSP)

After trawling the Playstation Store (now available on the PSP itself, meaning I can actually use it) for a while, it became clear there was nothing on there I really wanted. So I bought Echochrome. I’d played the demo before, and wasn’t that impressed, but for £4.99 (or rather, £5 – you have to buy money in the store to spend in the store, which is stupid) I thought I’d try it again. I’m still not really impressed. It seems …

This Week’s Roundup (360/Wii)

Another busy week (it was my birthday!) so I’ve got a bit of catching up to do. Wii Fit (Wii)Haven’t played this much since Tuesday, but did fit in a couple of sessions in the week. Mainly just played step and ski jump, though. Link’s Crossbow Training (Wii)Excellent! I got this for my birthday, which was pretty amazing in itself since it’s impossible to buy pretty much everywhere. It’s pretty simplistic (it is basically “just” a lightgun game) but is …

Tomb Raider Anniversary (360)

It’s odd, but I seem to start new games on Sunday evenings more often than at any other time. So today, in this strange tradition, I started Tomb Raider Anniversary. It has been a long time since I played the Saturn original, but it certainly is different. Of course, it has the Tomb Raider Legend engine behind it now, and the graphics are much improved, but so far it isn’t really all that familar. The grid-based areas are much less …

Geometry Wars Galaxies (Wii)

This just gets better! Every planet has a different “quirk”, like you’ve only got one life, or you have huge splitting baddies, or there’s no break from the action at all, or the “grid” is a maze with walls. I’ve been powering up my Turret, which seems great for taking down huge swarms, especially on the more open levels. I had plenty of opportunity to power it up too, considering the number of times I had to attempt a level …

Puzzle Quest (DS): COMPLETED!

Today started with having to find some herbs for the High Elves, and then progressed onto killing Lord Bane’s three (rather easy) Generals, followed by a Deathknight and then an Iron Golem (both quite easy too) before finally “fighting” Lord Bane himself. With an alarming about of HP (three times what I had), it was somewhat nailbiting at the end as we were both on around 30HP, there were red skulls galore on the grid, and it was my turn. …

Gunpey (DS): COMPLETED!

Um. NINE new games arrived today. Yes, 9. To add to the two that came yesterday. I have too many games to play. Tch. So I decided to play one of my new games, and chose Gunpey. I used to love Tarepanda no Gunpey on the Wonderswan, and this version, although lacking in the squished-panda department, is just as ace. Stylus control really makes it much simpler and less frantic, although I suspect they’ve upped the speed a bit to …
