April Fools Day 2010

After last year’s Epic April Fool of Win, expectations were high for today. I had a feeling people were not going to be as gulli– er, trusting, as before. After all, they don’t want to fall for it again, do they?  Or you’d think that, anyway. My email this morning: To: All Staff Subject: Reminder about changes to staff passwords Hi all, Just a (second!) reminder about the changes to your password when we come back over Easter. The new …

Kid Chameleon (360): COMPLETED!

Been playing this, in bits, for most of the week. I loved it when it originally came out, and I rated it as one of the best platformers ever made. I still, sort of, stand by my claim. Only with a slight problem – I’d never realised how difficult it is. In the Megadrive days, it was commonplace for games to have no save points or passwords, and with fairly long games like Kid Chameleon (it’s almost 3 hours long …

Games played this week

I’ve not had time to update this week, but, unusually, I’ve managed to play a fair amount. Apollo Justice (DS)Still plowing through the second case. I’ve started cross-examining the accused’s girlfriend. I think I know what the story is, and who did it, and why. Hurrah! Animal Crossing (Wii)Same as it ever is, really. Played for about 20 minutes each day, just pottering round Cheese; a bit of fishing, some fossil collecting, weeding, chatting to the other residents, and that …

Chrome stats for nerds

Chrome, the new web browser from Google, is very nice. It’s quick, it’s low on resources, and it’s pretty slick in general. There are a few bugs (like certain links can crash it), and there’s a nasty security problem in that your stored passwords aren’t protected in any way. Oh, and there’s no Mac version yet. However, once they’ve sorted these issues out, I might make the switch. In traditional Google Humour style, Chrome is also full of easter eggs. …

Assorted XBLA Demos (360)

Yes indeed – it is XBLA Demo Catchup time! 1942: Joint StrikeAs I’ve said before, shooters aren’t my thing really. However, I’m one for nostalgia and this is a great looking, and playing, remake of 1942. I’m tempted to get it, except I know I’ll be crap at it. I was crap at the demo as it is. SchizoidIt’s like Geometry Wars, only two player, and with no shooting. And you control both players. And it’s pretty good. Go! Go! …

Fire Emblem (GBA)

It’s just like Advance Wars! Only with swords and lances and axes, and not guns and cannons and rockets! Not really all that surprising, since it’s written by Intelligent Systems, who also did Advance Wars. One major difference, however, is that each of your units have characters and names. And, if they die, they’re dead and gone for good – you just don’t get them back. Ever. With this in mind, I promptly killed off Sain inadvertantly in Chapter 3, …

Taito Legends

Been playing this a bit this morning. Colony 7 was much like Missile Command, only sans missiles, and Elevator Action was fun despite the controls being somewhat unresponsive. Gladiator was more than poor, and Great Swordsman was good, if a little hard. However, I did also spend a while playing The Ninja Kids…

Fable

Since I’m a Right Proper Hero now, I thought I’d best do some Right Proper Heroing. Off I trundled to a nearby town, and talked to all the local laydees. I then examined a bookcase in a house, only to find it wasn’t “examining”, but “stealing”, and the guards ran after me. And hit me with swords. Gah – I was trying to be nice as well. Managed to get away (I couldn’t pay the fine as I didn’t have …

Paper Mario 2

Whew! A bit of a marathon session on this today. I really want to complete it soon; not because it isn’t any good, far from it, but because I have stacks of other games to play and I’m trying not to have too many “on the go” at once. I got the “turn into a boat” ability, as suspected, and then went off and defeated Cortez at the end of the Pirate’s cave. He was actually pretty hard, with his …
