Forgotten Worlds: REMEMBERED!

I used to have this for the Spectrum. It was crap. I also have it for the Megadrive. It is crap on that as well. Luckily, the arcade version isn’t, mainly due to twin-stickness making it much easier to aim your shots. It’s a bit of a cross between Parodius, Ai Cho Aniki, and Robotron, with some added Fantasy Zone shops. It was pretty good too, with bizarre bosses and the best Japlish cutscenes and ending ever. Probably. Completed then. …

Son Son: COMPLETED!

Another game from Capcom Classics. I’d never even heard of it before today, and it’s a strange genre hybrid – it’s a horizontally scrolling shooter, but with platforms. Which are mostly pointless. It reminded me a bit of that almost unknown Master System game Cloud Master, although that didn’t have platforms. It was just a similar “feel”, I suppose. There are no levels as such, but the game does progress through 20 stages, one after the other, with no breaks. …

Bionic Commando: COMMANDED!

What a dire game. It really lacks a jump button, and a “jump to lower platform” ability too. But, I persevered with it, despite it being less than one tenth as good as I recall it being from the arcades when I was younger, and made it to the end, destroyed the device there (I have no idea what it was) and then killed some bloke who looked a bit like Olaf from Advance Wars, who seemed to be the …

Capcom Classics Collection

I was slightly disappointed with this collection, especially after the excellent Taito one I got a few weeks ago. For starters, Street Fighter II actually makes up THREE of the 22 games listed, and there’s a load of vertically scrolling shooters (1942, 1943 and 1943 Kai – which itself is a remake of 1943 – are three of them), and even Ghouls ‘n’ Ghosts and Super Ghouls ‘n’ Ghosts, which are both essentially the same game. There are several “real” …

Sonic Advance 3

More play on this today, as I’m certain Sonic Rush will be appearing on my doorstep tomorrow, so I should get it out of the way first. It really looks gorgeous on my Game Boy Micro, and as I said yesterday, it’s much more fun than Sonic Advance 2 (which in itself didn’t seem to be a bad game, until I played this). Up to level 5.3 now, which is some kind of “digital world”, and has many nods to …

Sonic Advance 3

This is so much better than Sonic Advance 2. The levels are prettier, faster, and the game is more Sonic-like. It reminds me very much of Sonic 3 on the Megadrive. I’m enjoying it much more than Sonic Advance 2 as well, and I’m now up to World 3. The levels seem bigger too, and you can save after each Act rather than only after each Zone, making having to continue much less frustrating. Bosses are more standard Sonic bosses …

Snakes

Snakes is a free game for N-gage owners. It’s like Snake, only in 3D. A bit like Armagetron. It isn’t all that great, but it passes the time. I’ve been playing it in one or two level spurts over the last few days and spent a while on it this evening. I’m up to about level 16 now. It gets progressively more complicated each level, with extra things to collect, avoid, or use. This level is “two sided” – so …

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: CASE CLOSED!

After a somewhat marathon session on this today, some four hours or so, at least, I completed it! There are no end of twists and turns and stuff, and some double bluffing and lies upon lies, but I saw through them and won. I did, however, mess up at a critical point near the end and gave away some evidence at the wrong time, which ended the game. Bah. But I won the next time!

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney

This chapter seem to go on for ever! I’ve just been through the courtroom section of the second day, but it took aaaaaaaages. I’m sure I spent about two hours on it. I think the length of the game is mainly due to the huge amount of text that requires reading, but I messed up the cross-examination a few times so ended up having to redo it. Tch. Anyway. Only half of the final chapter left!

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney

Blimey. This final case is a bit long! I’ve spent hours on it this evening, and not only is it more complicated than the previous ones, but you get new “investigating powers” (like examining objects in 3D and stuff). And it’s really long. I’m expecting it to be three days of trial (like most of the other cases), but so far I’ve spent several hours doing detective work and haven’t really started in the courts yet. And this Angel Starr …

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney

Well into Case 4 now, and have completed my first day in court against the evil von Karma prosecution lawyer. He’s a bit scary. There’s not a lot I can say about the case really, without spoiling stuff again. I can say that it involves a murder on a boat, on a lake. And a Loch Ness Monster type side-story. And a giant inflatable Samurai. Just picked up some more clues from the crime scene too. Another day in court …

Gunstar Super Heroes

Played through a bit more as Red. I’ve done Moons 1, 3 and 4 now, without any real problems, but Seven Force on Moon 2 is giving me grief. I don’t remember it being all that difficult as Blue, but I can’t defeat him. Mind you, my save point does only have 40 health when I begin. I might go back a level and try to get a higher amount.
