Gizmondo Rising

Just when you thought the Gizmondo Story had reached the final chapter, it seems there may be a sequel!

The Gizmondo was a poorly realised and even more poorly marketed handheld machine, with built in camera and GPS, and with game and media playing facilities. Seven people bought one.

Of course, the great thing about Gizmondo wasn’t the device, but Gizmondo Executive Stefan Eriksson. Eriksson had a dodgy financial background, links to organised crime, and, in 2006, crashed his Enzo at almost 200 miles an hour. He claimed a never-identified German was at the wheel. Eriksson went to jail as a result of this and his other crimes.

Today, he was released. He’s being deported from the US back to his home country of Sweden.

Spookily, today also saw the uncovering of a new website: GizmondoLive.¬¨‚Ć At the time of writing, it consists of an animation suggesting the Gizmondo is coming back – as an open source gaming platform.¬¨‚Ć Or something. Games with “Exciting Psychic Worlds”, according to the site.
