This is where lies become fact, isn’t it?
Parents warned on fake consoles (BBC)
Lets just ignore the woman from HM Customs who doesn’t have a clue what she’s talking about, and doesn’t seem to know how to answer questions coherently either, and just move on to the subject. It would appear that Nintendo has been complaining that people have been buying DS consoles abroad for less money than they are over here in rip-off Britain.
However, since ordering the consoles from other parts of the world isn’t actually illegal, they’ve come up with an amazing story to convince Customs to sieze them on entry – they’re a fire hazard!
The fact here is that some companies may be providing a UK-spec power supply with these foreign machines, and these PSUs have not necessarily been tested to British safety standards. This is fair complaint. They may also bundle in a load of pirate games, which is also fair complaint. It’s also possible idiots are plugging the Asia-spec PSU into a UK socket, but that doesn’t make them faulty.
Thing is, they’re planning on just stopping these DS consoles coming into the country.¬¨‚Ć Surely that isn’t legal?
Then there’s the comments in the video saying the consoles are counterfeit, when they’re not. And the woman explaining how you can tell the difference between the real ones (they have a PSU) and the “fake” ones (they don’t have a PSU), before telling us the PSU on the fake ones can “get on fire”.
For the record, both my DSes were bought from abroad, and both are fine.
