Scramble (360)

Trousers (a guy on my friends list) and I had a go at cracking the get-30,000-points-in-co-op achievement today. It took a few attempts, mainly due to the horrific lag which kept causing problems, but we finally did it with a score of 31,000-ish. Or at least, that’s what we thought. It seems that although we broke the score needed, neither of us actually gained the achievement. Surely we don’t need 30,000 each? That’s plainly impossible in single player anyway, but …

Scramble (360)

Hurrah! Or at least, “Hurrah to some extent!”. I managed to get past stage 5, finally. That’s the sort of scrolly maze thing which requires pixel perfect ship maneuvering. As a result, I reached the Base Stage, but didn’t really know what I was supposed to do until I realised there was a thing I needed to shoot. I then remembered you could collide with the base, and you’d win (but not lose as life), so few at it, and …

Scramble (360)

With me now in 4th place on my friends list, and with stage 4 still incomplete, I thought it best to have a go to try and put right what once went wrong. So I stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator, and… Failed. I managed to exactly equal my high score, and I also managed to get further into stage 4 than I’d ever previously done, but it was no-go with the record breakage. Boo.

Scramble (360)

Bah. Trousers has beaten my score of 15,000-ish, with a score of about 25,000. I hate him. I hate him even more because I only managed to claw back as far as 20,800. I can get up to stage 4 without dying now, but usually lose at least a couple of lives there. Stage 5 is horrible, as you have to steer your ship through twisty, narrow passageways shooting fuel tanks. And I’m sure your ship can’t move fast enough …

Scramble (360)

400 points on this were spent today. It’s another old shooter, which I first came across as a clone called Ground Attack on the Spectrum. I later bought one of them Grandstand tabletop games of it too. It was aces. Anyway. I don’t recall it being quite so varied. Especially stage 3, where there are loads of fireballs and stuff. My memory is not what it once was, clearly. So I got a high score of about 15,000, which puts …

3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (3DS): COMPLETED!

Twenty-odd years ago, many a Saturday morning would be spent playing Sonic. Or Sonic 2. Or Sonic 3. And today, a Saturday, I played and completed 3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on the Nintendo 3DS. It was awesome. Like Gunstar Heroes and the first 3D Sonic the Hedgehog, the 3D here is mostly subtle. The original parallax layers are now given actual depth, and although this makes it feel more like a pop-up diorama than properly 3D it still makes …

The First Wii U Post

My Wii U arrived! So I spent most of the weekend playing it and the games I got with it. Nintendo Land It’s not a minigame collection. No matter who tells you it is, it isn’t. It’s a collection, sure, but some of the games are full, proper games. Take the Pikmin Adventure game. It’s Pikmin. Sure, it’s not got all the item collecting and night-time save-all-the-pikmin bits, but it’s a complete and reasonably long “campaign”. Single player only game …

Assorted iPhone Games (iPhone)

With my lovely new iPhone now here, and I’ve had just over a week to play with it, I’ve loaded it up with a few games. Here’s what I’ve been playing: Flight ControlIt’s only 59p, but it’s addictive like crack. The idea is (as will all the best games) simple – direct aircraft to the matching landing strip. You’ve got fast planes, slow planes, and helicopters, and you draw their flight path in. If they crash, game over. Great fun, …

Fillum review: Twelve Monkeys (1995)

When this first came out, I watched it three times in a single weekend, as it seemed necessary to do so in order to make sense of the story. This time around, however, despite not having seen it in more than ten years, I didn’t have to. I don’t know if that’s because I subconciously remembered the bits I needed to pay attention to, or whether I got lucky, but still – you have to concentrate or things really do …
