Rez HD (360)

Gah! I swear this is harder than when I played it on the PS2. Or even on the Dreamcast. I just can’t beat the Level 2 boss. In fact, this time, I didn’t even manage to reach it with better than just the starting “form” of your player. Rubbish.

Rez HD (360)

Straight in, no trial, no testing, no hesitation – I just paid for and downloaded the full game. And? It’s crap. NOT REALLY! LOL! No, it’s great. It’s just like the PS2 version I have, only with three main differences: I don’t have to use that awful PS2 pad. It’s slightly better looking. It sounds AMAZING. Admittedly, one of those things could be solved by the Dreamcast version, and another by plugging my PS2 into my new surround sound system, …

Rez (PS2)

I got an “ASCII Trance Vibrator Pack” in the post today, for use with this game, so thought I’d best try it out. And it really rumbles, and rumbles hard. If you hold it, it can actually get quite painful. Not that you can hold it, since you’re holding the joypad. So I rested it next to my knee. In fact, just resting it on the other end of the sofa is enough, as it vibrates the whole thing. As …

Rez

I played this for a bit. Attempted the first level twice before I completed it, managed the second level first go, and failed the third level twice. I had to stop playing then, as my wrists hurt from the overly vibratative (if that is a word) nature of the controller while playing. That and the fact my eyes were burning.

Pop’n TwinBee: Rainbow Bell Adventures (Wii U): COMPLETED!

In a (very) late entry into completed games in the year 2014, I give you Pop’n TwinBee: Rainbow Bell Adventures! It’s not a shoot ’em up like the other Pop’n TwinBee games – instead being a platformer with some elements borrowed from the likes of Castle of Illusion, Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario World, but somehow totally different from all of them. Whereas in the shooter games in the series you pilot a cute spacecraft and take down other …

The Wonderful 101 (Wii U): COMPLETED!

A concerted effort over the last few days has paid off, and I’ve managed to complete The Wonderful 101! I really enjoyed it. It’s mental, but it’s so much fun to play. OK, so the number of times you fight the same baddies is perhaps a bit too high, and drawing Unite Morphs in a narrow or enclosed space is sometimes a little tricky, but there’s just too much to love about it. It’s so bright and happy, with plenty …

Liberation Maiden (3DS): COMPLETED!

It’s a short game, sure. The reviews all seem to centre on that fact. It doesn’t matter, as it’s utterly fantastic. Five levels (well, four as the fifth plays a bit differently) of Kid Icarus Uprising/Rez hybrid gameplay, with lovely graphics and nonsense plot: You’re a female president of Japan who must save the country from an unknown enemy by piloting a flying transformer whilst wearing a tight fitting catsuit. Obviously. Took me about two hours to complete, but I’ve …

Assorted PSP Demos (PSP)

Downloaded some more PSP demos today and had a play. Hurrah for free things! Hot Shots Golf 2Or Minna no Golf 2, or whatever the English name is. Lovely! Only three holes, and I had to guess the controls, but it’s cute and colourful and plays just like those other golf games that I like. You know the ones – ones that aren’t crap. Ape Escape 2Erm. Monkeys. And a terrible, awful, rubbish camera. And it uses the “analogue” nub, …

Sound’s important

This is a bit of an update to my post the other day about my new surround sound kit. I’m not an audiophile. I can tell the difference between the radio and a CD, but that’s about it. However, I can appreciate a decent surround sound experience. Thanks to my new sound equipment, my ears have now been opened. Here’s what I had, soundwise, this time last week: Nothing Well, I had the speakers in my TV. But that’s it. …
