This is a bit of an update to my post the other day about my new surround sound kit.
I’m not an audiophile. I can tell the difference between the radio and a CD, but that’s about it. However, I can appreciate a decent surround sound experience. Thanks to my new sound equipment, my ears have now been opened.
Here’s what I had, soundwise, this time last week:
- Nothing
Well, I had the speakers in my TV. But that’s it. Now, I’ve got this:
- Onkyo TX-SR605 AV Receiver
- Tannoy FX5.1 Speakers
The difference is staggering. Once I’d managed to get my subwoofer working (I mentioned in a previous post that it wasn’t – I hadn’t turned it on), everything became… immersive. Seriously – even the irritating GoCompare TV advert was suddenly an impressive display of aural architecture. Thing is, I’ve not even tested it fully with stuff yet.
Rez HD though – amazing!
And how much did that stuff cost? It sounds impressive.
Um, far too much.
The Onkyo was almost ¬£400, the speakers were ¬£170. I had to get a load of cables too – some ¬£90-worth of them. I did get a ¬£50 discount on the lot though, so that wasn’t bad.
Thing is, that’s less than I paid for my HDTV, but, in my opinion, the change from TV speakers to quality 5.1 surround is far greater than 22″ CRT to 32″ HDTV.
