VVVVVV (3DS): COMPLETED!

At last, I’ve been able to get hold of a version of VVVVVV I can actually play! Yeah, I could have played it on the PC, but PC gaming is such a tedious chore I really couldn’t be bothered. I decided to wait (and wait, and wait) for the UK release on the 3DS, and here it is. Pretty sure the US got it months ago. Tch. Is it ace? YES. Is it hard? OH GOD YES. Look at my …

Lair of the Clockwork God (PC): COMPLETED!

After Devil’s Kiss, this was the Main Event. A new Ben and Dan adventure game, and long awaited followup to Ben There, Dan That and Time Gentlemen, Please. Unlike those games, there’s a whole load of platforming mixed in with the point-and-clickery, as Dan has decided exciting indie platformer adventures are the in-thing, and Ben’s insistence on examining everything and refusal to jump even the smallest amount both clash and co-exist in a unique hybrid of styles. But it’s not …

Celeste (Switch): COMPLETED!

I’ve seen a lot of people praise Celeste since it came out. Many of them saying it’s the best of the “stupidly difficult platformer” genre, which is presumably also populated with games like VVVVVV, Super Meat Boy and Slime-san. But, although I’ve liked some of those games before, I wasn’t sure I wanted another. Then Celeste was on sale of nearly-free, so I got it anyway. And it’s good. Really it is. The pixel art is nice and the story …

Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D (3DS): COMPLETED!

I am not a big fan of the Donkey Kong Country series of games. I didn’t like the SNES ones, I didn’t like the Game Boy ones, and although Donkey Kong 64 started well, the collecting killed it for me. As a result, I didn’t even have a slight interest in the Wii game “Donkey Kong Country Returns”, of which this is a 3D “remix”. So why then did I play it? Firstly, curiosity. Secondly, it was free. And thirdly? …

Kid Icarus: Uprising (3DS)

I am wondering if I might actually have too many games on the go at the moment. Mainly Skyrim, Skylanders, 3D Dot Game Heroes, VVVVVV and now this. Hmm. Not being a fan of the original Kid Icarus from all those many years ago, I wasn’t really looking forward to the 3DS game. Until I saw some videos and reviews a few months back. Then it was an instant NEED. Frankly, it’s fantastic. It looks great, and I really like …

Games I’ve Played Recently

Roundup time! Kirby and the Amazing Mirror (3DS) Actually, the GBA version I got as part of the 3DS Ambassador thing. I thought I’d played it before, but I don’t actually remember any of it. It’s very confusing, as there’s no linear progression from level to level (like in Kirby’s Dream Land) or a map where you can replay previous levels (like in Kirby’s Adventure). Instead, there’s a complicated map system where you have to find different exits to access …
