The return of Sky

The return of Sky

We’ve got Virgin Media cable TV, and, ooh, 18 months or so ago they had a slight argument with BSkyB. The outcome was that Sky threw their toys out of the pram and withdrew all their channels from Virgin’s service.¬¨‚Ć They expected everyone to ditch Virgin as a result, but, of course, many people barely even noticed. It’s not like Sky are the pinnacle of quality programming.

In fact, the only thing I noticed was the lack of The Simpsons to watch every night. Only Channel 4 have that covered anyway.

But this week, Sky have come crawling back. And?¬¨‚Ć We now have three main Sky channels instead of one, but the shows are the same. Literally. It’s still the same old Simpsons, Futurama, and Malcolm in the Middle repeats. Phew! Thanks for coming back, Sky! I don’t know what I did without you.¬¨‚Ć Oh yeah – the same as I do now. Not watch.

  1. Except you have to watch it Christmas day because they are using my theatre to film “Noels Christmas Presents”. Not just a little segment, no, the whole thing! I don’t expect you to watch the entire program of course… just enough to see my beautiful theatre at its best.

In fact I’ve got a meeting with Sky tomorrow to finalise the schedule and stuff. I have a feeling the coming together of TV and theatre could get messy, we seem to use a different terminology for just about everything! Very confusing.

  2. The very same, what a legend! It’s following the same format as the show he used to do on the BBC back in the 90’s. Apparently it was very popular back then, and since his resurgence on TV Sky have seen fit to revive it. I’ve been told it was on last year as well, though I didn’t see it.

It sounds a bit like an episode of “Surprise, Surprise”, with long lost families getting re-united and amazing gifts for people. Should be interesting to work on anyway, though there’s a huge amount of work to be done to turn a theatre into a suitable TV studio… I have to wonder quite why they didn’t just use a studio to begin with and save a whole lot of hassle!
