Zuma (360)

Haven’t played this in aaaaaaaaaages. I have, however, improved it seems. On my first go I managed to progress from 5-1 to 6-3, whereas I was previously not capable of passing 5-6. Excellence.

Zuma (360)

Gah. I’m not as good at this as I thought I was. Although a lot of it is down to random factors and luck, I think. I’m still on Stage 5, although I did manage to get up to 5-6 (the last one before Stage 6, I think), and even down to just three balls left, but no further. Rubbish.

Zuma (360)

Worked through Adventure mode a bit more, reaching level 5-5 before losing my last life. At least all of level 4 is done now, I suppose. Played Gauntlet mode then, scoring really poorly. So poorly, in fact, I’m at the bottom of my friend’s list leaderboard for it. Rubbish.

Zuma (360)

Played Adventure Mode again for a while. Managed to reach level 4-5, but then failed. Failed due to my own stupidity too, as I just kept mis-shooting near the end in a bit of a panic, and ended up adding so many balls to the run that I ended up dying. Stupid.

Zuma (360)

Another game bought with my “points” card, this time for 800 points. Yeah, I know it’s available for the PC and all, but I don’t play PC games any more, really. And the demo was somewhat addictive. I’ve managed to get as far as level 3-5 so far, and gained just the one achievement. Feeble.

Sparkle Unleashed (PS5): COMPLETED!

A while back I played that Zuma clone Sparkle 2, and it was pretty good. Well, I recently got a free trial of PSNow to preview what the upcoming PS+ changes might be like, and the original Sparkle was on there and so I gave it a go. The only real difference between this and Sparkle 2 is that in that game you have the launcher in a fixed point but can rotate 360 degrees and shoot balls that way …

Yakuza 6: The Song of Life (PS4): COMPLETED!

And so, the Kazuma Kiryu saga is over. That’s it. Done. Well, until they decide to make another one which I’m 100% certain they will at some point. Yakuza 6 isn’t a radical departure from the series, nor is it the pinnacle, but it is more melancholy, more complicated, and more based in seeming realism than previously. The story is very important, what with it being the last episode, so I dare not spoil it for you, but it involves …

Sparkle 2 (PS4): COMPLETED!

Sparkle 2, or “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Zuma” was a free PS+ rental that I’ve been playing off and on for a few months. It’s not taxing, it’s not hard, but it is fun in the same way Zuma was. It’s just 91 levels of shooting balls at other balls, but it does it well enough and I enjoyed it. Not sure what else there is to say about it, really.

Yakuza 3 (PS3)

Forgive me if I was wrong, but I was expecting Yakuza 3 to be a violent look at the Japanese mafia families, and missions would be lots of punching, fighting, and so on. Perhaps with some nasty plot twists involving betrayal and murder. And blood. In fact, the stories of the first two games (which I haven’t played, but are included in video form in this game) would imply that I would be correct to assume Yakuza 3 would be …

Assorted XBLA Demos (360)

Yes indeed – it is XBLA Demo Catchup time! 1942: Joint StrikeAs I’ve said before, shooters aren’t my thing really. However, I’m one for nostalgia and this is a great looking, and playing, remake of 1942. I’m tempted to get it, except I know I’ll be crap at it. I was crap at the demo as it is. SchizoidIt’s like Geometry Wars, only two player, and with no shooting. And you control both players. And it’s pretty good. Go! Go! …

Luxor 2 (360) (Demo)

Writing about Luxor 2 without mentioning Zuma is going to be hard. So I’m not even going to bother trying. Luxor 2 is a direct clone of Zuma. Almost. Yeah, I know Zuma is a clone of ten million other games, but they’re not on the 360 so don’t count. It’s like the Luxor people looked at Zuma and went, “We gots to gets some o’ that”. Of course, they carefully changed some stuff so as to avoid it looking …
