Tomb Raider Underground Demo (360)

I thought Tomb Raider Legend looked impressive, but this is head and shoulders above it. More than that even. It looks amazing. And it plays really well too. It’s fluid, varied, well animated, and gorgeous – and that’s just completing the demo. I’d be very likely to buy it, but I can wait. The last two Tomb Raider games I’ve bought were at bargain prices only a few months after release, so I fully expect this to do the same.

de Blob (Wii): COMPLETED!

I’ve played this a lot today. Which is evidenced by the fact I’ve completed the final four levels (and hence the game), getting a gold on each, and each taking (on average) an hour. Yes, so I played it a lot. It started to get really tricky near the end, especially as it threw loads of tanks and turrets and inky walls and bottomless drops and all sorts at you. The final level, on a space ship, also had a …

Mega Man 9 (Wii)

I downloaded the Proto Man and Endless Mode content for this during the week, but didn’t really get a chance to try it out until today. Endless Mode is great. You get random sections of the game, tweaked a bit, one after another with no break, one life, and no shop. The idea is to get as far as you can without dying, with your record recorded in number of rooms. I managed 24. The current online leaderboard says the …

The third anti-natal class

This week, we had our third (of four in total) anti-natal class. The theme this time was “Pain”. Basically, we were told all about the pains to expect before and during labour, and the methods that could be used in order to help with them. They ranged from “breathing differently” to “omfg we’re putting needles in your spine”. Nice. Then we were told about some complications that could happen, most of which involved yanking the baby out with some sort …

Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise (360)

Apart from a quick go on Mega Man 9 yesterday, this is pretty much all I’ve played this week. And I’ve played it a lot. It really appeals to my OCD side, as I systematically work my way through all the pinatas, getting them in the garden then master romancing them. This week, I’ve managed Ponockys, Horstachios, Chewnicorns, Moozipans, Swananas, Rashberrys, Zumbugs, Galagoogoos, Profitamoles and Pigxies. I’ve also managed to make resident, or evolve to (but not yet romance), Moojoos, …

Fillum review: Pan’s Labyrinth (2006)

Somewhat ignorantly, I didn’t realise this was all in Spanish with subtitles. Not that it matters (and I usually prefer the original language with subtitles than dubious dubbing), but I was a little surprised. I was also surprised by how nasty the film was. I knew it was considered a “fairytale for grown-ups”, but somehow this made me expect something more akin to Stardust, when, in fact, it seems to bear more resemblance to something like Platoon. Sort of. A …

I have broken the £25 Rule

I’ve stuck to it for over a year, but now I’ve had to break it as there’s no option – I must have the Fallout 3 Collectors Edition, and there’s not a chance in hell I’ll ever get it for less than £25, as it’ll be out of stock forever before it gets a chance to drop. But I did my best to minimise the damage. It’s £49.99 at Game. I had £15 in points built up from previous purchases, …

The second anti-natal class

So last Thursday (yeah, I’m running late) was our second anti-natal class. The topic was “what to expect on the day”, and started with all the stuff leading up to going into hospital – preparation, getting The Bag Of Things together, and so on. It then moved on to the pain and contractions and… messyness. Which was nice. Finally, we were shown a video of two births – one “normal” birth (which wasn’t too bad, despite the graphic nature), and …

Dell Inspiron Mini 9 shinyness

Our batch of new Inspiron Minis arrived at work today. And very, very lovely (and shiny) they are too. Strange quirks include no F-keys (there are replacements via the Fn button and home row) and some difficulty getting sound drivers working when replacing XP Home with XP Pro, but they’re working now and run pretty fast and cool. Some obligatory pictures: Things of note: The Mini is almost the same size as the 701, only very slightly longer and slightly …

Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise (360)

More master romancing “fun” today – Bark Barks and Quackberrys, mainly. I also managed (finally) to get my Choclodocus to grow into adulthood. It seems I must have missed off a bone from the list of things I needed him to eat. I didn’t get anything for doing it, though. I did, however, enter him into the “P Factor” contest, which he won, netting me an achievement.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions (PSP)

Well, it seems to have got much easier now. I had a fight against the Cardinal (or rather, a demon-fused version of the Cardinal) which was alarmingly easy. He cast Doom on three of my characters, but since I killed him in just two hits (my White Mage’s “Holy” spell did over 300 damage!) that wasn’t a problem. He was a sort of end-of-chapter boss, as I’m now onto Chapter 3, and am about 20 hours into the game. Of …

Mayhem in Monsterland (Wii)

It’s the only C64-exclusive game I can ever remember being any good. Admittedly, I only ever had it as a demo from some Commodore magazine cover tape, but still. And it is pretty good, yes. I’m not a fan of the up-to-jump mechanism so often favoured in computer (as opposed to console) games, especially when it leaves a fire button free and unused as here (well, except when you want to jump down a level, but that just makes the …
