Muramasa: The Demon Blade (Wii): COMPLETED!

I’m on a bit of a roll these last couple of weeks, yes? Another game completed today – Muramasa. The first thing to say about this game is: it is beautiful. I’ve not seen another game with such impressive, detailed, smoothly animated graphics in a long, long time. The animation, particularly with respect to back- and foregrounds is outstanding. Corn sways in the breeze, blossom falls from the trees… detailed and lovely. The game itself isn’t quite so special, but …

My CGC Entries

Over the years, I’ve entered a few games into the comp.sys.sinclair Crap Games Competition myself. Never won (or should that be lost?) mind. Perhaps my games were too good? Read below for the actual games, or skip over to the last page to play them! Octopus Lite (1999) This is my Speccy conversion of an old Nintendo Game and Watch game called (spookily) Octopus. The idea is to guide your little man down to the treasure, nab it and return …

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii)

Six and a half hours in. Now, don’t hit me, but I’m not actually enjoying it. I’ve never completed a 3D Zelda before, but it’s not because I’ve not enjoyed them – it’s just because I’ve…stopped. But this? It’s not bad by any means, but I don’t really like it. In true deKay fashion, lets list the faults, yes? 1) It’s Not Zelda Well, the Link-as-Link bits are. But since more than half of the game has been Link-as-a-dog, that’s …

A list of all the games (from Wikipedia, sorry) and some indepth reviews of each title: Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle – great! Alien Storm – rubbish! Alien Syndrome (arcade) – OK! Altered Beast – rubbish! Bonanza Bros. – OK! Columns – Not as good as the Master System version! Comix Zone – great but hard! Decap Attack – amazing! Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine – great! Dynamite Headdy – not as good as it used to be! ESWAT: …

The games of 2008

For four years now, I’ve kept a diary detailing the games I play. Part of the reason was to see how many games I buy (and to reduce this number), and how many I complete (and to increase this number). 2008 saw a drop in completed games – 33 compared to 61 in 2007. I don’t think this is bad, when you look at the games I’ve been completing. In 2007, there were quite a few shorter games, including 5 …

Saints Row (360)

I started off by finishing a few of the recently-found Snatch missions, before moving on to pimping up my Mag (which I’ve been using as my car of choice for later Snatch missions as it’s pretty durable and can carry three passengers). I then found a new Insurance Fraud activity, so set about clearing that one out too (which was pretty easy, even without the police-car-head-on tactic). I also killed a load of people (starting with the DJ) in a …

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (360)

The first thing I did today, was go to Anvil’s castle to see the smithy and sell the few stolen items I had. I bought some cheap, crap, light armour from him, and then went outside and repeatedly summoned a demon, had it attack me, and then repaired the damage. The reason? To boost my armory skills. I’m now a Journeyman, which lets me repair enchanted items – just as well, as all my armour and some of my weapons …

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (360)

After making a million more potions (I’m Journeyman of Alchemy now – yay!), and breaking into someone’s basement to steal all their food, I decided to return to Imperial City to pursue the Grey Fox. As I left Bruma, I found the horse Martin was riding previously, so I nicked it. Well, technically I didn’t steal it as such, as it was a Weynon Priory horse and it was free for the taking. But anyway. So off I rode to …

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (360)

With Sean, uh, Martin found, it was time to head back to Weynon Priory to see Jauffre. Off we set then, on the long, long road back, via Skingrad and past the Imperial City. The trip took the best part of an hour (real time), and was pretty uneventful. The few things that attacked me were quickly dispatched by Sharpe Martin before I even had a chance to draw my sword. Eventually, I reached Skingrad (where I made a load …

Spider-Man 2: SPUN OUT!

Blimey. I played this so much today, I got to the end. For the sake of brevity, and also to avoid spoilers, here is a condensed version of the events of the day: Mysterio called me to his “underground lair”, which was a funhouse. Killed deformed mirror versions of myself. Went to Octavius’ presentation, machine went loopy, his wife died, arms got fused to him. Dr. Octopus attacks the bank, I chase him off, he takes Aunt May, I chase …

Advance Wars: Dual Strike

A few more missions, and my first DS game crash! Part way through the first Fog of War mission, I attacked an enemy tank, and the bottom screen went black and the game crashed. The music was still playing in the background though. Had to power off and try again. Also had a play on Combat Mode. It’s great – kind of like a cross between Atari’s Combat for the 2600, and Gauntlet. You have one unit at a time …

Yoshi Touch & Go

Been playing this for most of the day, and have finally managed to get to the top of the scoreboards on both Score Attack and Marathon modes. That means Challenge and Time Attack modes are open for me. And are clearly impossible. I realised today what the point of the dropping-to-the-ground first section is – you build up points, and then the more points you get for that section, the better the Yoshi you land on. Different coloured Yoshis have …

Fable

Since I’m a Right Proper Hero now, I thought I’d best do some Right Proper Heroing. Off I trundled to a nearby town, and talked to all the local laydees. I then examined a bookcase in a house, only to find it wasn’t “examining”, but “stealing”, and the guards ran after me. And hit me with swords. Gah – I was trying to be nice as well. Managed to get away (I couldn’t pay the fine as I didn’t have …
