Spider-Man: Miles Morales (PS5): COMPLETED!

New Spider-Man, same game. Well, that’s a little unfair. Miles is a bit different to Peter in a few ways. Notably, he has a “venom” power which lets him do smash attacks, and he also has far fewer gadgets, but actually the only bit difference is the plot. Set soon after Spider-Man, it opens with a fight with Rhino (with the help of Peter), before you take over New York patrols while Peter leaves the country for reasons related to …

Spider-Man: Remastered: The City that Never Sleeps: Turf Wars (PS5): COMPLETED!

Although it is sort of its own story, this chapter continues on from the previous DLC. The Maggia are getting more dangerous what with Hammerhead nicking all the high tech Sable weaponry and outfitting himself with some impressive armour. There’s a new set of Screwball challenges too.

Spider-Man: Remastered: The City that Never Sleeps: The Heist (PS5): COMPLETED!

That’s more colons than a tin of cheap dog food. I won’t go into the mechanics of this DLC chapter as they’re the same as in the main game, but the story is much more low-key than what went before. It follows the return of Black Cat and how the Maggia (definitely not the Mafia) are resurging into Manhattan to fill the void left by Kingpin’s incarceration and how one of the Maggia family dons, Hammerhead, is trying to seize …

Spider-Man: Remastered (PS5): COMPLETED!

The most important thing in any Spider-Man game is the web swinging. What’s the point of being Spider-Man without it? Sure, he could swing in some of the 2D 8 and 16-bit platformers, but when the Gamecube-era Spider-Man 2 game came out the freedom of 3D traversal round New York was a massive wow. The rest of that game… not so much. Well, much time has passed since then and this, the PS5-improved version of the PS4 exclusive, is very …

Spider-Man 2: SPUN OUT!

Blimey. I played this so much today, I got to the end. For the sake of brevity, and also to avoid spoilers, here is a condensed version of the events of the day: Mysterio called me to his “underground lair”, which was a funhouse. Killed deformed mirror versions of myself. Went to Octavius’ presentation, machine went loopy, his wife died, arms got fused to him. Dr. Octopus attacks the bank, I chase him off, he takes Aunt May, I chase …

Spider-Man 2

More photos to take, and met up with Black Cat again (for the third time, I think now). She’s bloody irritating, as you have to chase her across the rooftops every time. After beating some crooks up, it was over to see Mary-Jane, and quickly off to the cinema. Chapter 7, and Quentin Beck challenged Spider-Man to a duel-of-sorts, which was much like the TV programme Gladiators. Firstly, I had to catch criminals and throw them into holes, then I …

Spider-Man 2

First task in this chapter was to take some photos from assorted areas of the city. For no real reason, it seemed. Then, it was time to defeat Rhino. This was pretty easy, but involved dodging and countering his attacks rather than just hitting him. After that, it was off to Octavius’ lab for a quick visit. Spent a while afterwards doing hero-type-stuff to get Hero Points, so as to advance to the next chapter – Chapter 6.

Spider-Man 2

More swinging. There’s a lot of it in this game, it seems. Ran up some more buildings, delivered a pizza, beat up more people who had stolen things, went into an art gallery and beat some people there up, chased a woman across the rooftops, rode a train for a bit, chased a balloon, was ambushed a couple of times, and generally did Spider-Man Type Stuff. I’m on Chapter 4 now, it seems.

Spider-Man 2

Well. The web-swinginging bits are all very nice, if a little difficult to control, and the jump-when-you-release-jump (like in Tony Hawk’s) is a little unusual for a platform beat-em-up, but my 30 minutes or so with it so far have been pretty good fun. I swung around the city a bit, beat some people up, retrieved a purse, ran up some walls, leapt on a car and smashed the window, and swung around some more. I might actually have to …

Immortals: Fenyx Rising (PS5): COMPLETED!

The name change from Gods and Monsters to Fenyx Rising was enough to put me off ever buying this, and the quick price drop on release and middling reviews did nothing to convince me otherwise. What did convince me, however, was actual Real People saying it was alright actually but more than that was the dearth of things to actually play on my PS5. yes, Spider-Man, I know, but this was £21. Also a negative was just how much like …

Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 (Switch): COMPLETED!

And yet another Lego game beaten. This one was pretty good fun, focussing mainly on Spider-Man, Thor, Captain America, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy and a lot of less well known heroes (and foes). The plot is stupid and has Kang taking various different Marvel locations, universes and time zones and creating Chronopolis by smashing them all together. What that means is there’s a lot of variety in the levels, with some really geeky references to the comics. Other …
