My desktop this month
For no reason other than I just minimised a window and thought “ooh, that is nice”, here’s my current Macbook desktop.¬¨‚Ć The picture is by the wonderful FargalEX, and you can see more of his stuff over here.

Yes, it is true. No more am I pretending I’m just 19-and-some-bits. I’m actually 30 now. Today. Which sounds very old, doesn’t it? Well, unless you’re post-30 yourself already. But it seems old to me. I don’t feel old. I don’t even feel any older than I did at 20. So I suppose I’m not. But I’m half-way to 60 already. Pff. It seems I share a birthday with Andy Murray and Zara Phillips. And lots of other people, of …
After one of the missions, where you kill a guy outside a video game arcade, the city’s online newspaper reports this story.
Being a netrock manager (like a network manager, only more metal), I often need to deploy software across hundreds of PCs. Helpful companies provide “msi” files which I can just plug into a Group Policy on Active Directory, but less helpful companies insist on using exe installers, using InstallShield or WISE or whatever. These companies need to be punched in their actual faces. Luckily, some of these installers actually include msi files within the install exe, but actually getting to …
GTA IV arrived yesterday, and I was actually quite excited about playing it. Before it came out, I wasn’t all that fussed, actually, and was prepared to wait until it hit less than ¬¨¬£25 (because I won’t pay more than ¬¨¬£25 for a game), regardless how long that was. As it turned out, it was just one day. Since ordering it, my excitement did build a bit, and I was really looking forward to it. Sadly, I feel a bit …
I wasn’t going to buy this. It didn’t interest me as much as previous GTA games, or as much as Saints Row 2, but then I saw I could get it for 22 quid at Play-Asia and, well… Weakness. At least I didn’t break the ¬¨¬£25 Rule, I suppose. It arrived today. Yay!
By popular demand, here are some more snippets from the MP3 player manual I was talking about the other day.
I’ve been having an annoying problem with my internet banking all week. Although I can chuck money between my accounts with gay abandon, actually making a payment has thrown up some error about incorrect message authentication codes. Every single time. All week. It just happened again just now. I rang their technical support and they asked me some questions and put me on hold. So I tried again just fr fun while I waited. And it worked. And they’d not …
We got some rubbish new MP3 players at work today. For ¬¨¬£10 they’ll do the job, but they’re not exactly iPod killers. That isn’t the point of this post, however. Oh no. The point is: AMAZING ENGRISH. That’s right! The badly-translated Chinese manual is fantastic! Every page is a delight to read. In incomprehensible delight to read, yes, and in some cases totally baffling. Here are a couple of pages to entertain you: Edit @ 20:11: Oooh, that’s a bit …
I’ve just had a call on my mobile, from the number 01792 828105. Which looks suspiciously similar to 01792 828103, don’t you think? As in, the number of a company that rang a couple of weeks ago trying to scam me over a new phone or contract or rabbits or something – I can’t really remember as I wasn’t interested. Surprise surprise, looking up 01792 828105 on WhoCallsMe? confirms it. It’s “Mobiles For You” (with or without a “4” and/or …
I’ve been spotted again! This time someone who knows me through work was behind my Face of Gorm on a bus, somewhere near Lowestoft in (as you can see) Sunny Suffolk. Mud on my face!
I’ve been spotted! My friend Ian just emailed me this amazing picture, taken in Kings Lynn today. I especially like the bit where it lies about my place of birth (I’m from oop North, not Norfolk). I’m the bloke on the advert on the right, not the car.
Yesterday, I came across a Mac program called Bento. It’s a database application made by the Filemaker bods, and instantly interested me because a database application is the only thing I still need Windows for in day-to-day use. It’s also very cheap – around ¬¨¬£25. I downloaded the demo, and had a bit of a play last night. It basically works just like the form designer in Access, but rather than having to create the fields in a table first, …
Play Asia have a PAL-playable, English language, Asian 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV in stock for just under ¬¨¬£33. OK, so it isn’t a huge bargain, but it’s the cheapest price I can find at the moment. Bargain GTA IV
