Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (360): COMPLETED!

Well, I wasn’t expecting that. I mean, I was expecting to finish it, of course – but I didn’t expect to play though Sequence 5 and get to the end and have “Sequence 9 Complete” come up. Turns out I was much further through the game than I thought. Since I’ve spent about 80% of the game “off-story”, that means the main story was very, very short compared to Assassin’s Creed 2. I don’t really mind as there’s been plenty …

House of the Dead: Overkill (Wii)

I’m not adverse to a bit of swearing in games. GTA IV, for example, is full of it and it doesn’t bother me. It’s within context and fits the story. In Prey, however, the swearing seems shoehorned in, just to make the game more “adult”, and I took offence to it. House of the Dead: Overkill is neither of these two. It has more swearing per square inch than Malcolm from In The Thick Of It. It’s not even necessary. …

2007: A Year in Gaming – Epilogue

Phew, eh? That’s a lot of games. Overall, I’ve completed 61 this year, and played around 200 (if you include demos).¬¨‚Ć So what was best?¬¨‚Ć What was unexpected? Biggest Surprise Almost certainly Halo 3. I didn’t like the campaign mode (which I played a fair bit of in co-op – I actually completed it too, although didn’t play every chapter). The surprise was enjoying online multiplayer as much as I did. Team Fortress 2 is better, in my opinion (especially …

Assorted Xbox 360 Demos (360)

And what a pile of crap most of them were. Flatout UC: Dull. Like Burnout with no soul. The Darkness: Reminds me too much of Prey, but seems reasonable.Juiced 2: Like Need for Speed Underground crossed with Forza 2, but not great.MotoGP ’07: Yawn. Looks awful, plays just like the last one, which I disliked. The “crown” goes to NASCAR ’08 though. What a totally tedious, crap looking, pointless game. It’s like Daytona USA on the Saturn, only with everything good …

Serious Sam: Next Encounter (GC): COMPLETED!

Erm, so there’s only three “chapters”? Oh well. The last one started off in some sort of snowy wasteland, then moved underground to the Lost City of Atlantis, then moved through some caves, some strange gravity-warping temples, and finally into an alien spaceship. I can see, actually, that Prey nicked a few ideas from this game too, with the wall-walking and stuff. The last few levels were pretty difficult, as health pickups became fewer and baddies increased in number (and …

Saints Row (Demo) (360)

Had another short play on this, but didn’t do anything constructive. Overall, I’m quite disappointed with it. The main thing it lacks over GTA (and there’s no way to talk about Saints Row without mentioning GTA), in my opinion, is bikes. I loved the bikes in That Other Series, and since Saints Row doesn’t have any, I’m not enjoying it as much. That said, the combat is a lot better, and the number of things you can just kick around …

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (360)

So it seems that the lightning staff you have the option of using in order to kill the two minotaurs in the dream is actually usable. I’d been pressing the “cast magic” button, not “wield weapon” button, so it had been just telling me I was silenced. With this in mind, I jumped up onto a platform where I couldn’t be hit, and killed the two beasties without much of a problem. After that, I was back out of the …
