On the topic of screen resolutions: Q or Q?

Warning: this post may contain scenes of a geeky nature. So I’m looking for a new monitor. Actually, two new monitors – one for work, and one for home. On my PCs, I love a huge resolution, running a 19″ Iiyama VM Pro at 1600×1200 at work, and a 22″ Iiyama VM Pro at 1920×1440. Mmm, screen real estate. Thanks to the aceness that is Expos‚àö¬©, I manage happily with “just” 1280×800 on my MacBook, but on a Windows machine, …

Cruncher in Mazeland (PC)

That’s right – not only did I buy the staggering game that is Lady Cruncher, I found next to it another game: Cruncher in Mazeland. You heard me. It’s a sequel! Here’s a quick review: Cruncher in Mazeland is a Pac-Mania clone, only from the same camera angle as the Saturn game Bug! and stars a toilet/robot hybrid in drag. On each level you collect balls, bananas or coconuts (instead of dots) and giant balls or apples (instead of power-pills) …

Lady Cruncher (PC)

Remember this? Well, I bought it today, as it was only a pound. It took a bit of convincing to run on my MacBook (under Parallels) as it kept flicking screen mode, but eventually I made it work. And OH MY, was it so not worth bothering. Here’s a brief review: Lady Cruncher is a Pac-Mania clone, only from the same camera angle as the Saturn game Bug! and stars a toilet/robot hybrid in drag. On each level you collect …

The Castlevania Adventure (GB)

What? In? Hell? This has to be the slowest, hardest, most irritating game ever made. Ever. Your character (Simon? It doesn’t tell you) moves as a snails pace. You have no subweapons. You can’t jump very far (and the game is full of pixel-perfect jumps), you only have three lives, often when you die you go back miles, and the whole game jerks and judders all over the place. Ace! So I spent AGES trying to get past the Stepping …

New Rally-X

It’s just Pac-Man only more “free flow, yo”, isn’t it? Not that it matters, as I bought it for 400 points anyway. Only played it for about 10 minutes, but that was long enough to rack up 7 achievements. Go me! I never really “got” Rally-X before. I think it’s one of those arcade games somewhat forgotten in the UK. I certainly don’t recall ever seeing it in the arcades, and it was only because of emulators I even knew …

Viva Pinata (360)

Having sold all my Swananas, and packed up and sent my Pigxies to myself (to put in another garden away from the Rashberry they keep fighting), I then concentrated on getting the Master Romancer awards for Cinnamonkeys (which didn’t take long), and then Reddhotts, which was much faster than I expected too. After that, I sold all my Reddhotts and set about breeding Salamangos, having evolved a couple of Newtgats into them.

Resurrecting the Amiga

Having fiddled around with WinUAE (an Amiga emulator for Windows) a little this week, I realised that I probably still had a load of stuff I’d like to have another look at, and maybe archive properly, on my old Amiga 1200. It’s been stuck up in the attic, unused for the last 6 or 7 years, and I wasn’t sure it was even going to work. The plan was to get the information off the hard drive using either a …

Viva Pinata (360)

MATING FRENZY! Well, sort of. I mated a load of Squazzils and some Lickatoads, and then made a start on selling my Jameleons, Squazzils and Candaries. I need the space for the Lickatoad population explosion I’m expecting to create. Also decided to try and coax some more Bunnycombs and Whirlms back in, as I haven’t got the Master Romancer award for either of those, even though I’ve bred them a billion times each. Tamed my first Crowla today too! That …

Viva Pinata (360)

Gnngh! Super Addiction Fighter II Turbo! Right, Bunnycombs are now gone. I wanted to breed Pretztails, and I thought it best to get rid of them all before they were eaten. Having sold them all, I then sold my Buzzlegums and Mothdrops to make some space. However, I don’t have everything needed to breed Pretztails, so a change of plan was in order. I evolved some Sparrowmints into Candaries, then bred about 15 of them. I also made some Squazzils …

Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS)

K.K. Slider night, and he played K.K. Fusion. I really should count up how many tracks I have now, so I know how far off the the 52 total I am. I’m expecting to be up around 45-ish, I think. Overall, this evening was pretty musical in Cheese, as it was also La-Di-Day. Many of my animals wanted to sing me new town tunes, but most of them were crap. I chose Sally’s as the new one, mainly because I …

Ridge Racer 6 (360)

Really made some progress on this tonight. Completed about 12 or so races, which takes me to just three races away from the bottom right of the map. I’ve unlocked another car (a Pac-Man one), but I don’t want to use it as it’s one of them non-standard drift ones, and I can’t cope with them.

Time Pilot (360)

Time Pilot was on the Xbox Live Arcade downloads thingy today. I have played it a bit before (and actually have a copy of it on Konami Arcade Advanced for the GBA), but I don’t remember it being very good, nor me being very good at it. So I bought it anyway (400 points, about £3.40-ish), and it’s great. I think it’s the online leaderboards that make it – just like Pac-Man and Frogger and all the other arcade “classics”. …

Texas Hold’em (360)

This is what I was downloading when playing Pac-Man earlier. For today and tomorrow, Microsoft are giving it away for free. Aces! It’s pretty good too, if a little hard on the eyes. Maybe a new HDTV will help there. Like the one I ordered today! Anyway. I played offline for a bit to get a feel for it, then played a few random people online until the connection dropped out. I then tried to play Becs of off my …

Galaga (360)

Just the one go whilst I waited for Pac-Man to download. I managed a really good run, though, getting up to about level 8 or 9, and earning a score just shy of 60,000 points. OK, so it isn’t a fantastic score by any means, but it’s waaaay better than my previous 28,000-ish.
