Mega Man 2 (Wii U): COMPLETED!

Is this 2 or II? The title screen says II, but everywhere seems to reference it as 2. Up until writing this, I’d thought the roman numeral numbering system for Mega Man games only applied to the NES ones, and the Game Boy games used standard decimals, but I don’t suppose it really matters. What does really matter? The game! Which is just the same as the first one. Well, OK, that’s a slight lie. There are differences. First of all, …

Fixing “Not enough free space” error when deploying Windows image

After creating a new install of Windows 7, with all the software on I wanted, I then tried to use our Windows Deployment Services Server to capture the image. However, it failed using both methods we’d used previously. When booting to Windows PE over the network, choosing all our usual capture options, and then triggering the capture, an error message came up – “not enough free space”. This seemed odd, as there was a good 60GB free on the local …

3D Space Harrier (3DS): COMPLETED!

This week, the long awaited 3D Classics from Sega finally made it to the 3DS in Europe. Well, two games did, anyway, with more to come. So far, Space Harrier and Super Hang On have been released, and I decided to pick up Space Harrier. Many, many years ago, I was the champion of Space Harrier at this here arcade in Southport: View Larger Map Good times. I’d go there a few times a year and I’d still be at …

Managed network install of Google Chrome Frame

If you’re locked into using Internet Explorer on your network, for whatever reason, you’ll probably find that there are some websites that simply don’t work properly, and ask you to install a “modern browser” like Firefox or Chrome. Thing is, allowing other browsers on your network is fraught with technical support issues, especially if you use other systems that insist on only working properly in IE (like some Sharepoint stuff). You can’t rely on users to always use the right …

Dead Space: Extraction (Wii): COMPLETED!

Utterly, utterly compelling. Excellent script, brilliant story, and some amazing set pieces and twists. The end of Level 9 is a complete shocker too. I’m always impressed by great story and pacing in games, and Dead Space: Extraction stands as one of the best examples of how to implement a story into a game. Once again, like many games I’ve played recently, it’s a crying shame that nobody bothered buying this. In fact, on the back of it, I’m tempted …

Dead Space: Extraction (Wii)

Taken as a shooty game, Dead Space: Extraction isn’t especially special. It’s pretty and everything, but there’s little variety in the baddies. It has some nice weapons, but once I obtained the line gun I found I didn’t need anything else (aside from the rivet gun for, er, the riveting bits). However, taken as an interactive film, Dead Space: Extraction is fantastic. A plot to out-do many SciFi flicks, mostly excellent voice acting (although some of the accents do drop …

To the woman with the Isuzu 4×4

Dear Woman with an Isuzu 4×4 at Asda tonight, I noticed you parked your oversized car in the last remaining “family” space. You know, those spaces reserved for people with children, who have to struggle with car seats and pushchairs. Those spaces positioned near the shop doors, so you don’t have to wheel your baby through quite so much cold and rain. Those spaces in such great demand to people with families, that even on a relatively quiet night there’s …

Fillum review: Batman Forever (1995)

No, I haven’t seen The Dark Knight yet. But this’ll do, yes? Sort of. Unlike the first two 1990s Batman films, which were a bit dark and "grown-up", Batman Forever doesn’t pretend to be much more than a film based on the 60s series. It’s a comedy. The baddies, The Riddler and Two-Face, are maniacal in the same way the baddies in 60s Batman were. It’s all bright colours and puns and silliness. The plot doesn’t make much sense. There …

Maniac Mansion (NES)

Isn’t the NES great? Well, aside from mine which keeps resetting, anyway. Thank the baby Jesus for my NeoFami, eh? Anyway. This is another point-and-click adventure that I never completed “back in the day”. I thought I’d see how I fared with Man Brains. Interesting Trivia about Maniac Mansion: I first played the game in Germany, on my German exchange partner’s C64. He had it on disk, and it took fourtyeightyteen weeks to load. The best bit, was it was …

Jetpac Refuelled (360)

So Mr SomethingWitty thinks he can waltz on in and blow my Retro mode score away, does he? Oh yes, he did. Bah. But! I managed to get 42,000-ish on the same mode – some 2,000 points higher than his, putting me 110th in the world and top of my friends list. For now.

Pac-Land (PCE)

I’ve just realised – I’ve had this game for ages but haven’t added it to my Games List. How lax of me. Anyway. With a new TV also comes the ability to play NTSC-based consoles, which I haven’t been able to do previously. This, of course, means that I got the PC Engine Duo-R out, and played some games on it. First up, Pac-Land. I loved it in the arcade, and was always disappointed with every home version I’d ever …

Touch de Rakushou Pachi-Slot Rio de Carnival

Yes. It really is called that. And I haven’t got much of an idea as to what I’m actually doing in the game, as it is all in Japanese. I know it’s mostly a fruit machine game, but the top screen keeps doing things and people appear and twirl their moustashes or jiggle their breasts (as gender dictates), and sometimes I have to play blackjack at the same time as playing the slots and it all gets very confusing! I …

Pac ‘n Roll: ROLLED OVER!

I went back to this today, and surprised myself by completing it. I was really plowing through the levels, and didn’t realise how many I’d completed, and suddenly I was on the end boss. Excellent! Some of the levels today were pretty difficult, and I soon lost most of the 15-or-so lives I’d racked up earlier in the game. Specifically, there was a bit where you had to roll over a collapsing bridge, then back again, before it disappeared. At …

Pac ‘n Roll

Completed all of World 3 this evening, and as a result of collecting a certain number of gems, I unlocked World 7-1, on Pac Moon. Basically, it was a DS version of the original Pac-Man, with a goal of 10,000 points to gain another gem. Luckily, it was pretty simple and I soon had some 18,000 points before I died. Back into the main game, and I’m now on to World 4 – Ghost Land. Uh, but all the lands …

Pac ‘n Roll

Noooooooooooooo! Too many DS games to play! Pac ‘n Roll arrived today, and of course, I had to play it. And it’s ACEBEST. You control Pac-Man by rubbing the stylus over his face on the lower screen, like a trackball. He then rolls around the level on the top screen. It’s really quite clever. You can do long fast “strokes” to power forward, and there are assorted hats to wear to add new abilities and stuff. Played through all of …
