Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham (Wii U): COMPLETED!

You know pretty much what to expect with a Lego game. You know there’s a series of levels with fixed characters and loads of secrets you can’t get see or access, some sort of hub world with more secrets you can’t see or access, a lot of silliness, and approximately two thirds of the game locked off until you’ve finished the story. Then it’s back to the earlier levels with new characters and abilities you didn’t have previously to attempt …

Last Window: The Secret of Cape West (DS)

Super Backlog Fighter! I’ve had this for almost a year now, but, like many things, it’s sat on the Pile of Shame (TM). But now I have saved it from that pile, and am playing it! On an actual DS Lite too, for added retro authenticity. Not that the game, or the DS Lite is actually that old, but you know what I mean. Many moons ago, I played Hotel Dusk: Room 101. It was a point-and-click interactive story adventure …

Skyrim (360)

Unlike previous Bethesda RPG titles for the 360, which I had to get IMMEDIATELY, even paying through the nose for the special editions (£70 for Fallout New Vegas? YES.), I couldn’t warrant the £120 the Skyrim special edition was. Especially since the vanilla versions of all the other games were down to £15 two or three months after release. I was still excited, though, even if the price barely dropped. And so it came to pass, that last week I …

Red Dead Redemption (360): COMPLETED!

Well. That was a twist. Sort of. I suppose if I’d read the signs I’d have realised the game couldn’t really end any other way. Dutch pretty much tells you what’s going to happen anyway. But it was more the stuff after that which I’d not expected at all. Yes, this is very vague if you’ve not completed it. Let me just say that the dialogue logic for all the stranger and random encounters must have been one hell of …

Lego Batman (360): COMPLETED!

Of course, I haven’t yet completed it 100%, but I’ve done all the story missions (and got Super Hero/Super Villain on them all) and the two bonus levels. It really is a great game, and so much bigger than Lego Indiana Jones. I do get the feeling some of the suits for Batman and Robin are a bit of a contrived device, and swapping characters and suits in Free Play mode is a bit of a chore as there are …

Too Human (Demo) (360)

Amazingly, this didn’t turn out to be pants like I was expecting. OK, so it doesn’t feel like a game that has been in development for, what, 40 years? And it isn’t quite as hack-everything as the previews seemed to suggest. And there’s a story (about technologically advanced Nordic Gods or something) too. Rough edges include the lack of proper camera control, The Kameo Effect on far too many surfaces, and some minor animation problems, but I had fun for …

My 360 RIP, part II

Yesterday, I emailed Microsoft with the problems I’d been having. Today, I got this reply: Hello Andy, Thank you for writing Xbox Customer Support! We have received your email and I understand that you found that your game discs got scratched while they were inside the Xbox 360 console. I deeply apologize for the inconvenience. Scratches on a game disc can occur for several reasons. However, scratches do not necessarily prevent the disc from working. If you move or reposition …

Gizmondo resurrection: Exciting Psychic Worlds!

Just when you thought the Gizmondo Story had reached the final chapter, it seems there may be a sequel! The Gizmondo was a poorly realised and even more poorly marketed handheld machine, with built in camera and GPS, and with game and media playing facilities. Seven people bought one. Of course, the great thing about Gizmondo wasn’t the device, but Gizmondo Executive Stefan Eriksson. Eriksson had a dodgy financial background, links to organised crime, and, in 2006, crashed his Enzo …

Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon: SLAYERED

The wine puzzle was obvious once I’d read George’s notes. Thankfully – I was feeling stuck. I then had another annoying Sam Fisher moment, and found the Templars hiding. They knighted George, and gave him the Phi stone, to go with his Omega and Alpha stones. On returning to the “gang”, the location of Susarro was figured out (the exact location, that is) and it was off to Eygpt. Another sneak-past-the-guards section later, and we were inside the Armillary, where …
