My 360, RIP

Like 16% of other Xbox 360 owners, I too now have a dead console. Unusually, mine doesn’t suffer from the “red ring of death”, but instead seems to dislike playing games. You might recall the problems I was having a couple of months ago with Eternal Sonata, crashing and freezing. Well, a couple of nights ago, Viva Pinata Party Animals started doing the same thing. Last night, it froze completely, and will no longer play at all. Here’s what I …

Onkyo breaks Wii Virtual Console: The Horror!

Noooo! My lovely shiny expensive sexy audio equipment has a flaw! A nasty horrid flaw! It seems that you can’t play Wii Virtual Console games through it. The picture splits in half, and the left half is on the right and vice versa. Then the screen goes black. And then I can’t use the Home button to bring up the menu, as when I do, the Wii crashes. Rubbish! Thankfully, I figured ot a workaround. Until now, everything that goes …

What in the name of all that is furry?

I just caught this while flicking channels. It’s some Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon which I’ve not seen before, and stars these two badly designed freaks alongside Sonic himself. Sonic who plays guitar. And the worst least scary baddie ever. And the channel it’s on – Pop, which I’ve never heard of – appears to have an annual budget of 17 pence. Amazing scenes.

Gizmondo resurrection: Exciting Psychic Worlds!

Just when you thought the Gizmondo Story had reached the final chapter, it seems there may be a sequel! The Gizmondo was a poorly realised and even more poorly marketed handheld machine, with built in camera and GPS, and with game and media playing facilities. Seven people bought one. Of course, the great thing about Gizmondo wasn’t the device, but Gizmondo Executive Stefan Eriksson. Eriksson had a dodgy financial background, links to organised crime, and, in 2006, crashed his Enzo …

Sega Superstars Tennis

Imagine a game like, ooh, Mario Tennis. Only instead of fantastic characters from the world of Nintendo, you have all those “great” characters from the world of Sega. Like Sonic the Hedgehog. And, erm, lots of rubbish furry things from Sonic games. And a monkey! In fact, two monkeys! And Ulala. Amazing. Veedayoh:

Bargainous Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice

The “new Phoenix Wright game”, Apollo Justice, is due out for Western DS gamers on the 12th February. Unlike the previous three titles, the Japanese version didn’t have an English language option, so those of us gagging for more courtroom “action” have had to wait. But the wait is nearly over! And, so sweeten the deal a bit, Play Asia have it up for pre-order for the bargain price of just ¬¨¬£16! Take That!

Kwari: Cash for Kills

Kwari is like some sort of online gambling/first person shooter hybrid. You play it more or less like a standard online FPS, but you get paid (actual real money) for your kills, and lose money when you’re killed yourself. Yes, it does sound like there’s all sorts of moral and legal issues with this system. Anyway, here’s a clip of the game which hopefully explains more:

Eternal Sonata crash horror – and fix!

So I’ve been playing the 360 game Eternal Sonata a lot recently, and now, 17 hours in, I’ve been getting a lot of crashing and freezing. In fact, I can replicate the following every single time: It seems to do it as it’s loading something new in, like a baddie, or a list of items, or some dialogue.Thankfully, I found what appears to be a fix. Like many Xbox 360 games, the problem lies in the data the game caches …

2007: A Year in Gaming – Epilogue

Phew, eh? That’s a lot of games. Overall, I’ve completed 61 this year, and played around 200 (if you include demos).¬¨‚Ć So what was best?¬¨‚Ć What was unexpected? Biggest Surprise Almost certainly Halo 3. I didn’t like the campaign mode (which I played a fair bit of in co-op – I actually completed it too, although didn’t play every chapter). The surprise was enjoying online multiplayer as much as I did. Team Fortress 2 is better, in my opinion (especially …

2007: A Year in Gaming – Part 3

September The beginning of The Big Game Crunch of 2007.¬¨‚Ć Basically, every game in the world arrived in the post and I had to play them all. Most played in September (once RE4 was out of the way) was probably Super Paper Mario.¬¨‚Ć A fantastic game, by all accounts, and coupled with RE4, Mercury Meltdown Revolution and MySims proved that the Wii certainly was a fantastic console. Sonic the Hedgehog made himself known this month too, with Sonic 2 on …
