Pullblox World (Wii U): COMPLETED!

That’s clearly a pimp, not a boss. And it’s the final “main” level in the game. Which was really pretty difficult, mainly due to needing to set up so many blocks before you could progress to setting up other blocks. Having said that, I’ve had a few levels which I’ve struggled for half an hour or more on, and this took less than that. With the main 120 levels done, and the end sequence watched (or rather, played – there’s …

Pullblox (3DS): COMPLETED!

14 hours in, and the main 198 levels are, finally, completed! There were some real head scratchers in the last few sets of puzzles, but thankfully my “tactic” of leaving a level I was finding impossible, then returning the next day, seemed to help. Of course, there are now the 50 or so bonus levels, and untold user-made levels to work through, so it isn’t the end really. Fantastic game, well worth the £5.40 or whatever it was, and far …

Pullblox (3DS)

TOO MANY GAMES. That is, too many 3DS games. Too many! Who’da thunk that a few months ago? Other than me, I mean. Pullblox is a simple puzzle game where you “pull” shaped bits of wall out of the back of the screen, then climb up them, pushing them in and pulling them out as necessary to progress. And it’s wonderful. It’s a great idea, it’s lovely and happy blue skies and stuff, and it even has a level editor …

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (Wii U): COMPLETED!

First up, here’s a massive spoiler I don’t mind giving away: Captain Toad is actually the prequel to Super Mario 3D World. I mean, everyone knows it’s a spinoff based on the Captain Toad levels from 3D World, but the end sequence of Captain Toad actually shows how it’s a prequel, what with Toad returning from his adventure then setting off to the Sprixie Kingdom after green stars. Who knew? Captain Toad is pretty much just more levels like those …

Things I’ve been playing recently

Euro Truck Simulator 2 (PC) My first ever Steam Sale purchase! Sadly, it isn’t as great as I thought it was going to be. The graphics are flatter and drabber than videos had led me to believe, the roads are samey and short, and you’ve little choice in the routes you have to take. Still, driving all the cars off the road on the way to Belgium, then running down all the Belgians when you get there, never gets old. …

2011: The Games

It’s a little later in the year than usual, but, as is traditional, here’s my list of the best games of 2011. Also as previously noted, this is a list of the best five games I played in 2011, not necessarily those that came out then. As is becoming more common, I’m buying games well after release when they’re cheap. 5. escapeVektor (Wii) Criminally overlooked, this WiiWare gem is a fantastic Painter-type arcade game. I played it from start to finish …

Stuff I’ve played recently

A roundup of some of the games I’ve been playing in the last couple of weeks: Pullblox (3DS) Completed this a while back, but have gone back to finish some of the bonus levels that you unlock, and some of the user generated ones I’ve found strewn across the internets. It’s still lovely. Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (360) Returned to mop up a few more achievements and actually play some of the side missions and games I’d totally missed. There are …
