The Important Sonic Comparison Chart
I did one of these for Tony Hawk games a while ago, but I decided, in the wake of Sonic 4 and Sonic Colours, that we needed reminding of what we have lost.

Sega, please. Stop doing this to Sonic. It’s like he’s already dead and now you’re raping his corpse.
Still rattling through this. I’ve now 100%ed both chapters 1 and 2 of The Crystal Skull, completed both the Super Bonus levels for doing so, and completed (but not 100%ed) both chapter 3 and Raiders of the Lost Ark. You know, at first I wasn’t sure of this new hub-based level structure, but I’ve grown to really like it. I’ve noticed there’s no Free Play mode any more either – instead, you redo old levels, differently. Like the giant spider …
BMX Racers was probably the first game my sister took an interest in playing. She used to pester me to put it on my Spectrum. She made up some back story about the Granny-with-a-walking-stick too. She was very odd. Many years later, I got to play a Master System game (actually, a Sega Mark-III game – in Japan only) called Alex Kidd BMX Trial, and it reminded me very much of BMX Racers. In fact, I did wonder if one …
It’s pretty much all I’ve played this week. And it’s very good. Better than the other Lego titles? Yeah, I think so. I’m now most of the way through Chapter 2 of the Crystal Skull. The hub world here is huge, and the puzzles in it and hidden items really add to the fun. There just seems so much more to do in it than any of the other Lego game “hubs”. What I’m not so keen on, however, are …
Inspired by the FANTASTIC piggy I drew earlier, I decided to have a look for the previous “pixel art” I’d done about 12 years ago on the Amiga. I shouldn’t have bothered – they were far worse to look at than I remembered. There was a system on the Amiga for higher quality (than standard) icons for programs, games, files and folders called NewIcons. I’d installed it on my Amiga, but couldn’t find icons for a few things. So I …
I drew a piggy. Properly drew. Pixel by pixel. My first pixel art!* He’s certainly a happy looking piggy! *Not technically true. I’ve drawn little stick men before. And, more importantly, I drew some Amiga NewIcons once. They’re on Aminet somewhere. But that’s another post!
It was my birthday yesterday, and my lovely wife and daughter bought me this (and two other sequels – Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock 2). So I set up my 360 for the first time in three months and had a go. It actually took quite a while to get into the game, but once in, it was all great! Clearly it’s going to be more of the same Lego stuff, but there are differences. Each “episode” has its own …
This was my experience of setting my Xbox 360 up again for the first time in three months, so I could play Lego Indiana Jones 2, which I got for my birthday yesterday. I unpacked it. Then it all went wrong. There were FIVE system updates, one of which froze my 360 (as is usually the case with system updates). After that I couldn’t connect to Live, except I was connected, could see messages, send messages, browse the shop, etc., …
I got internet access back at home this week, finally, just in time for the release of Bit.Trip Runner. I’d played one of the previous Bit.Trip games – Beat – a while back, but found it way too hard. Although I liked the style, I didn’t bother with Core and Void as I thought they’d be too hard too. With Runner, however, I couldn’t resist. I knew it was going to play like a “big” version of games like Run! …
If there’s one game that defines my childhood gaming more than any other, it’s Chuckie Egg. From clocking it on my Spectrum, to beating my friend’s high score on his MSX, to the covert Chuckie Egg competitions on the BBC Micro in the school library, it was THE 8-bit game of choice. Of course, you’ve all played it, right? If not, DO IT NOW RIGHT HERE!
May have a few dents and scratches, otherwise in good condition. Sort of. Posted via email from deKay’s posterous
Well, would you look at that! I actually have some sort of usable internet connection! After a month of virtually nothing! It’s the most exciting day ever.
