Games played this week

I’ve not had time to update this week, but, unusually, I’ve managed to play a fair amount. Apollo Justice (DS)Still plowing through the second case. I’ve started cross-examining the accused’s girlfriend. I think I know what the story is, and who did it, and why. Hurrah! Animal Crossing (Wii)Same as it ever is, really. Played for about 20 minutes each day, just pottering round Cheese; a bit of fishing, some fossil collecting, weeding, chatting to the other residents, and that …

Swords and Soldiers (Wii)

This is excellent. If you don’t buy it, you need a kick in the teeth. It got very hard towards the end of the Aztec campaign, with one level in particular seemingly at stalemate for 20 minutes whilst both side just spammed units, until I decided this was never going to work and gave up. Next go seemed much easier, although I did finish the first objective much more quickly. Now, I’m onto the second level of the Chinese (or …

Animal Crossing (Wii)

I’ve managed to play this every day, bar one, so far, which is pretty good going. I’m taking it slower than in previous versions, but already I’ve managed to pay off my first mortgage and almost half of my second. Bunnie came and visited my house yesterday. She said it was a bit sparse (I have virtually no furniture) and gave me three stars. The cow. I’ve also joined Redd’s club, which I know is a bad idea as I …

Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice (DS)

I’ve had this for aaaaages, but haven’t played it. Then I forgot I had it. Then, this week, I was looking for something I could play for reasonably short bursts on my DS and I stumbled across it on my shelf. Game get! And, it’s more of the same. Only different. Sort of. The first trial is more tutorial than anything else, but it has some Phoenix Wright backstory, introduces Apollo, and implicates his mentor. So, quite a bit in …

Animal Crossing (Wii)

My wife bought me this for my birthday yesterday. Doesn’t she realise I lost three months of my like to the Gamecube version, and a whole year to the DS one? Surely that means I’ll be old and dead before the Wii iteration relents? Anyway, I moved in, met everyone, got my mortgage, went to the city, watched Dr. Shrunk, and entered myself into the fishing competition. As I left it, I was winning with a Black Bass of 27 …

Banjo Tooie (360)

I actually bought this when it came out a couple of weeks ago, but haven’t mentioned it here for some reason. So far, I’ve got most of the jiggies in the first world, and two in the second. And opened the third. Not really enjoying it as much as the original. There’s too much back-tracking and jumping in and out of worlds. I know there was a bit of this in the first one, but, like the collecting, it’s taken …

Burnout Paradise (360)

‘A’ Licence GET! I hadn’t realised that by not doing any of the races, Marked Man events, or Road Rage events (well, not many) for most of the game, it had left them all pretty easy to complete. So I finished off the 25 wins with mostly races and Road Rages, getting me my A licence. I found a cheat, of sorts, for Marked Man too. Just drive very slowly. You can’t get hit hard enough to crash, so it’s …

Adventure Island: The Beginning (Wii): COMPLETED!

I know I was saying how hard this was, but in fact, it got easier as it went along. This was mainly due to being able to buy new moves and upgraded weapons; the double-jump and flying jump combined made some bits of the later levels very, very easy. I’m also convinced the end of game boss was easier than the second boss too. Once I’d figured out his pattern, anyway. After completing the game, you get another marker on …

Burnout Paradise (360)

It seems I did get quite a few new games this week – Burnout Paradise, Adventure Island, Bit Trip Beat, Strong Bad Episode 5, Trivial Pursuit… On Friday I made a start on Burnout Paradise. Very quickly, I’d managed to get my C licence, and then I played online for a couple of hours. Most of my game time since then has been spent just cruising the streets, looking for smashes, jumps and billboards; of which I have found at …

Adventure Island: The Beginning (Wii)

Whilst having another loads-of-points-in-my-account-but-I-am-weak moment, I bought this from the Wii Ware shop in the week. I’m not impressed with the quality of the presentation, to be honest. The graphics are a bit shoddy, in that 2.5D way games sometimes are, and the screen fonts look like they’re poorly scaled, and it’s not in widescreen. However, it plays like a great platformer from days gone by. It’s hard (I’m at World 2-2 and it’s difficult already), but that’s good – …

Bubble Bobble Plus (Wii)

Played co-op with my wife this afternoon. All was going well, until we reached level 72. Which is impossible. I remembered it from the arcade version, and although it was bit fiddly there, on Bubble Bobble Plus it is, in fact, impossable. You start in a narrow column, and can’t get out without jumping on bubbles. Problem is, you’re too enclosed to blow any as they burst immediately. In the arcade version, you can put your back to the left …
