Civilization IV (Demo) (Mac)
I didn’t mean to play it, as I was using it to test my graphics card. But I ended up “testing” for 45 minutes – which is 100 turns and the full duration of the demo. Oops.

Right. That’s all the tutorial and the first 13 episodes (each with five levels) now completed. However, I am stuck. The 4th level on the 14th episode is a million times harder than anything I’ve yet come across. It has three missile launchers in the middle, which prevent me from progressing at all, let alone hitting the three impossible-to-reach switches needed. Grr!
Working through the Challenge mode now, and some of them are bloody hard! Managed to do all the 35/45/55 peg challenges, and a few All Clears, but the 300,000 point ones are almost all beyond reach.
I think this would be my very first completed iPod game. Hurrah! The last five levels were indeed somewhat hard, with the moving helix on the last one being a pain especially, but they’re all pretty tough. And that’s it! Well, except all the Challenge Levels. Ace!
When I looked at the iTunes store last night, I intended to only buy the recently added Sonic the Hedgehog. But somehow, I bought Peggle as well. And ohmygodwhat? It’s a bit bloody addictive, isn’t it? I played a bit at work (it is last day of term!), then in the pub waiting for my wife to finish work, then most of the evening. I’ve done 50 of the first 55 levels, and love it. So much fun for just …
Since I’ve done it over there, I thought it best to reciprocate here too. Thing is, I have two blogs. There’s this one, which is a diary of all the games I play, and there’s my other one which is full of random stuff. I’m not just about games, you know! There’s all sorts of stupid pictures, general geekery, and, uh, yeah – games. Aces, yes? It’s recently come to my attention that I’ve got two sets of readers. Some …
I was stuck on one level for aaaaaaages, but then I had a stroke of genius and moved on. I’m on Floor 6 now, on the 3rd or 4th level there. Things are getting a bit tricky, because not only do you have to navigate the “get the hearts” phase, and the “get to the chest” phase, but sometimes you now have to look ahead to the “leave the level” bit – I’d inadvertently blocked myself in a couple of …
More jumping around like a loon today! I don’t think I even went near any of the generals, spending all of my game-time searching for orbs and chucking things around a bit. I’ve got about 140 of them now, but only found another two or three hidden orbs.
With Shivering Isles all done and dusted (um, bar all the side quests of course), I’ve decided to mop up the remaining questlines in the main game. First up, was going back the the Dark Brotherhood. I was given the task of killing an elf in the Imperial City, who was pretty easy to do in. He spend a few hours imbibing Skooma in an abandoned house, so all I had to do was find him there. Then, I was …
I think, but I’m not sure, that the “xx/120” counter is in fact number of chests found, not number of levels completed. You see, I went back and unlocked another secret level, and completed that, and the counter went up from 76 to 81. I still have a ? for part of the collection screen too. I assume I get something there for getting all of the treasure chests or something. Or maybe it’s to do with that yellow Kirby …
Purrl has become another Cheese Departee. She upped and left today (or perhaps yesterday) with no warning. I hope she gets hit by a bus, the ungrateful cow. Uh, cat. Kabuki was demanding clothes this evening, but wouldn’t accept any of those that I bought from Mable and Sable. They just weren’t stylish enough, apparently. That’s gratitude for you. Several of my animals wanted to pop in to see my house too, so I told them it wasn’t a museum …
More savage deaths of poor, cute little pinatas. How cruel to children you are, Rare. All of my Whirlms are dead. One of my Sparrowmints is dead. All my moths and flies were ill from being beaten up. Horrible. Due to the huge amount of fighting between species, and being unable to separate them with fencing (my two new Bunnycombs nibbled through the fence keeping them apart from my Bunnycomb-eating Pretztail, and got eaten), I decided to cull some breeds. …
Now this is much better than that Contra nonsense of last week. I was never that good at Defender “back in the day”, so was quite alarmed to see that after just two goes, not only was I top of my friends list leaderboard, but I was about 300th in the entire world. Of course, this is mainly due to there not being many people who have played it yet. After all, I did only manage to get as far …
It’s an explosion of cute, right in your eyes! Despite the fact that Rare haven’t made a decent game in about 10 years, I went ahead and bought Viva Pinata anyway. Mainly for my wife, but also because it’s a bit Animal Crossing-y and Harvest Moon-y and I liked both of them. And it’s great. And cute. I put about two hours into it so far. I started off with a ruined, untidy garden, and some woman called Leafos gave …
I have indeed completed it again. This time, however, on “Crusin’” mode (otherwise known as “Normal” to Ouendan veterans). “Lets Dance” gave me a few problems, and I had to do the finale (“Jumpin’ Jack Flash”) about 5 times, but I finally did it and moved on up to the next difficulty level. ACE.
