A post about video games

Hello! It’s been a little while since I last posted anything, mainly because I’ve been busy. Thought I’d just mention a few upcoming games that’s I’m really looking forward to, and some other game related stuff. It’s been a slim few months for releases I’ve been interested in. Partly because there haven’t been that many big games over the summer, and partly because due to the £18 Rule I don’t get much on release any more and by the time …

Assorted Xbox 360 Demos (360)

Yes, it’s demo time again! Dark SectorYou move too slow and can’t jump, and the dual-wielding doesn’t feel right, and the weapons you can only use for 10 seconds is stupid and the Y-axis needs inverting and the sensitivity is way off (although both these things are adjustable) and I got to a dead end and have no idea where to go next. But. I sort of enjoyed it. It reminded me a lot of Resident Evil 4. NFL ’09American …

2007: A Year in Gaming – Part 2

May May was more varied than previous months this year.¬¨‚Ć There was Eledees and Wing Island on the Wii, Crackdown, Lego Star Wars II and Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland on the 360, and the amazing Ouendan 2 on the DS, as well a plethora of 360 demos, XBLA games, and Wii VC titles. I struggled with the original NES Castlevania (on the VC) for a while too, and never did manage to complete it.¬¨‚Ć It’s just too hard! June Oh …

Half-Life 2 (360)

So Ravenholm is straight out of Resident Evil. They might not be actual zombies, but they’re no so different. And then there’s The Predator who jumps around the rooftops and climbs drainpipes. Oh, and the harder versions of the headcrabs who poison you as well as jump on your face. I didn’t really like Ravenholm that much. Nothing about it seemed like Half-Life to me at all, and the loon from the church just detracted further. After that, it was …

Mercury Meltdown Revolution (Wii)

Just in time to fill the Resident Evil 4-shaped void in my Wii drive slot, Mercury Meltdown Revolution arrived this morning. If you want it yourself, it’s a bargainlicious £14.99 at Shopto.net at the moment. I was expecting more of the Super Monkey Ball/Kororinpa thing with this, but it doesn’t feel like them at all. In fact, it’s more puzzles and less steady-hand, and you even hold the remote 90 degrees left from those other two games. Many of the …

P.N.03 (GC)

This game has been sat on my shelf for about 18 months now, I think, and I’ve never even opened it. I thought I knew about the game too – jump around as a german woman and shoot robots. Dodge into alcoves, do cartwheels, etc. But there’s more to it than even that. There’s a combo system in place, which encourages you to quickly defeat baddie after baddie. This gives you stacks more points, and what do points make? Prizes! …

Knights of the Old Republic (Xbox)

Still on Manaan. I went round doing the Gumshoe routine around Ahto City, and amongst other things, found out that the guy I need to defend did actually kill the Sith woman he’s being tried for. So I’m not actually sure what it is I now need to do as far as that’s concerned. If I wasn’t so fussed about Light and Dark side points, I’d just go ahead, but I don’t know what will result from it. Anyway, I …

Timesplitters: Future Perfect

Enjoying this so far. I might even complete it. You never know. Went back and completed the level with Harry Tipper, and the train level following it. Homage to Goldeneye, by the same developers? Perhaps… At the end of the level there was a puzzle thing to stop the nuclear missile being launched, and a fight with a guy with a rocket pack. Obviously. The next two levels were obviously inspired by Resident Evil. Firstly, it was set in a …

Under the Skin

Not a particularly successful play today on this. I did managed to complete the Pharoh level on my second attempt – once I’d figured you could smash the huge gold boulders, my coins racked up pretty quickly. Sadly, I had less luck in Frontiersville, although I did come pretty close. As for the Resident Evil Racoon City level – that’s just plain impossible. FACT. You have to get Nemesis to drop all of his coins, but you have to hit …
