Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 (GBA)

Hurrah! It finally came! I have THUG, THUG2 and THAS all waiting for me to play on the GBA, but I want to do them in order so had to wait for THPS4 to arrive. Yes, I know there’s a THPS2 and THPS3 for the GBA, but I already have them and completed them a few years ago. Anyway, so I made a start on it on my Game Boy Micro. I did wonder if the size of the console …

Mario Kart DS: KOMPLETED!

All of the 150cc cups have now been won! By me! Which means the game is completed! Well, technically, there is still Mirror Mode to go (and the missions), but the game proper is all done now. Almost all of my ranks are A and above, with just one or two Bs. I think there may be a D in there somewhere too, but I think I might have redone it. I’ve also done all the DS cups in Mirror …

Son Son: COMPLETED!

Another game from Capcom Classics. I’d never even heard of it before today, and it’s a strange genre hybrid – it’s a horizontally scrolling shooter, but with platforms. Which are mostly pointless. It reminded me a bit of that almost unknown Master System game Cloud Master, although that didn’t have platforms. It was just a similar “feel”, I suppose. There are no levels as such, but the game does progress through 20 stages, one after the other, with no breaks. …

Sonic Gems

It seems I unlocked Vectorman without trying, and without playing anything, to start with. Didn’t choose that first though, instead playing Sonic the Fighters, which isn’t great. I never played it in the arcade, but I think it is based on the Virtua Fighter game engine, or something. Played through as Sonic, relishing punching Tails in his stupid bloody face, but was defeated by Nack, who has a gun and so I can’t get within a mile of him. Sonic …

Zelda no Densetsu: The Hyrule Fantasy

Dungeon 6 has to be the hardest thing ever. The Wizzrobes were making me cry real actual tears. I died about 984759823745 more times, and progress was hampered somewhat by the fact that all of the baddies (aside from the three-headed dragon mid-boss) had come back to life overnight. Imagine my joy. Thankfully, I had a bit of luck, and made it to the dungeon boss – a crab spider thing with a giant eye. Guess what I had to …

Hello Kitty Roller Rescue

I bought a game in a pink box! Hurrah! And it’s so cute it makes you want to gouge your eyes out with a fork! BEST! Played for about half an hour, which was long enough to complete the first 4 or 5 missions. Rescued Kitty’s mother, her sister, Purin, a frog thing, and Lala. It’s all very easy so far. And cute. Vomity-cute at that. I’ve even unlocked new costumes for Kitty – a denim one (complete with denim …

Pocket Slay

Been playing this a bit today on my iPaq. It’s one of those games I play a lot, but don’t report on here very often as it isn’t “mainstream”. It is, however, ACEBEST. It is sort of like Risk meets Paper, Scissors, Stone, where you have to take over territories, but do so by having ever more powerful fighters to defeat less powerful ones. Erm. That doesn’t really explain it very well, but the website for the game (and there …

Viewtiful Joe 2

Reel 6 – Do Androids Dream of Romantic Scene? I don’t care, but what I do care about is the sodding SuckySuck(TM) bit that is the entire reel. Yes. Why do games designers think that recycling all of the game’s bosses and throwing them at you one after another is a good idea? There is some stupid bit of story behind it this time, with “Miss Bloody Rachel” (no, that is her name) the android morphing into copies of all …

Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst

Hurrah! I have success! Limited success, anyway. I found that if I set up Windows shortcuts to change the input language from EN to JP (and back), then when I found I couldn’t type or access the menu within the game, I could swap language and it’d work. For a bit, and then I’d have to swap again. But it works! Then I realised that my joypad (a GC pad through a USB adapter) doesn’t let me go “full speed”. …

Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons

Dungeon 8 is teh winned. The mid-boss wasn’t so bad after I realised you only had to hit him once in his “fire” form, and could do the rest of the damage in his “ice” form, making him much easier. The rest of the dungeon was pretty straightforward, with a strange “chuck ice down holes” bit near the end. That done, and it was on to the end boss. Who was really easy. I just watched his patterns for the …

Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons

Two or three entries to the diary for the price of one here, as I’ve been plowing through the game off and on today. Firstly, I finished off Dungeon 7. The ‘weapon’ there wasn’t what I thought it might be, though – it turned out to be Roc’s Cape – an upgrade to the feather allowing me to jump three times as far as previously. The mid-boss was pretty feeble, being just two ghosts I’d fought elsewhere in the dungeon, …

Trackmania Sunrise Demo

Since everyone on the ugv* groups are talking about this, I decided to download the demo and have a go. There are three game modes, with two levels in each, open in the demo. Race is, obviously, a race. I’m not too sure about the handling, though, and the jumps are pretty blind. Perhaps a Hard Drivin’ “speed limit” sign system might help here. But it’s “nice”. Platform mode involves jumping, mostly. But, since the jumps are blind still, you …

Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude

I found an easy way to make money today – taking photos. Get at least two “lights” on the camera, and take a picture. Then, take your snaps to the geeky guy in the library and he’ll pay you for them, $1-per-light, for a fee of $1-per-photo. The cheerleaders all in one shot gets you $4 this way, so you can rack up the money fairly easily. Won over Zanna, by beating her at strip-trampolining (as you do), and they …
