My Wii RIP, part I

So I bricked my Wii last night. To cut a long story short, I’d attempted to download the updated shop channel using WiiSCU to bypass the homebrew-stomping Nintendo System Menu 4.2 update, and now it’s bricked. Bah. When my 360 dies, or plays up, or just doesn’t work, I get annoyed. With my Wii, it’s different. It made me sad. Not least because I’m concerned about the 4 months I’ve put into Animal Crossing – a save file it won’t …

Tales of Monkey Island: Chapter 2 (Wii): COMPLETED!

Thankfully, having completed chapter 1 last weekend, I didn’t have to wait long for chapter 2 – it was out on WiiWare yesterday! Played it a bit last night, than completed it this morning. Like chapter 1 it’s a bit short, but then it is a chapter, not a full game. It was great, anyway. A little harder than the first one, as I got stuck a couple of times, but it was just as good.

Tales of Monkey Island: Chapter 1 (Wii): COMPLETED!

I downloaded this WiiWare game a while ago, but only got round to playing it yesterday. And then completed it today. Yeah, it’s pretty short. But then, it’s by Telltale Games – who did the Strong Bad games I’d played previously – so I wasn’t really surprised. It was pretty good too. Reports on the Wii version had it down as a horrible jerky mess with broken audio and crap graphics, mainly due to the compression necessary to squeeze it …

The Outstanding itek Wireless Console: Part 1

I teased it a bit yesterday, but here’s some more information on the best games console since the original Game King – the itek! I paid a STAGGERING ¬¨¬£19.99 for this from local supermarket “Roys”. The price says ¬¨¬£39.99 – but that was how much it cost last year when they started stocking it. I knew if I waited long enough they’d drop it a bit, and I was right! Worth the wait? Of course! Unboxening It’s the law of …

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Reshelled (360): COMPLETED!

I powered up my 360 for the first time in what seems like forever just to download and play this yesterday. I didn’t play for very long, but then today I completed it. Already. Not that I really expected any less, though. I mean, it’s a pretty short game. I just didn’t expect it to be quite so easy, that’s all. Inly the final boss was any sort of challenge, and even he wasn’t too difficult. But it looks amazing, …

Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice (DS): COMPLETED!

It would actually appear that the point I saved at yesterday was actually immediately before the final conversation in the game, so technically I completed it then. It took me ages (a couple of months, I think) to finish, but it’s not through lack of interest – more lack of time. I played it for 20 to 30 minutes a night, most nights, for that time. Anyway, the verdict on the game? Excellent. It’s Phoenix Wright only different only the …

Animal Crossing (Wii)

Over the last week, I bought some turnips (eating nearly 15,000 bells worth by accident), then watched in horror as the price from Nook dropped each day, finishing at just 39 bells yesterday when I was forced to sell them or lose out entirely. I’d paid 117 each for them! Rubbish. Stupid ugly frog girl moved out a few days ago, and now Caroline the Squirrel has moved in. She’s much better. I also got the final house upgrade this …

Bit Boy!! (Wii): COMPLETED!!

As it’s retro week, and Bit Boy!! is a new “retro” game, it seemed like fate that it was out yesterday on Wii Ware. So I bought it. Now I sort of wish I hadn’t. The presentation is great, and the way the game starts off as a 4-bit title then works up a game generation every few levels is clever, but ultimately it makes no difference to anything other than the graphics. Which leaves the game for what it …

Burnout Paradise: Big Surf (360): COMPLETED!

Yesterday morning, I downloaded the Big Surf add-on for Burnout Paradise. This afternoon, I completed everything it had to offer. Which was actually more than it would appear from that timescale. I got a good 6 hours out of it, finding the smashes, billboards and mega-jumps, as well as completing all the new events. Strangely, I really wanted to 100% it, whereas with the main game, I wasn’t so interested. Perhaps the smaller area just made it seem more feasible …

Animal Crossing (Wii)

I’ve managed to play this every day, bar one, so far, which is pretty good going. I’m taking it slower than in previous versions, but already I’ve managed to pay off my first mortgage and almost half of my second. Bunnie came and visited my house yesterday. She said it was a bit sparse (I have virtually no furniture) and gave me three stars. The cow. I’ve also joined Redd’s club, which I know is a bad idea as I …

When did Google break?

Over the last few weeks I’ve been becoming more and more frustrated with Google’s search. It’s only really one complaint, but it’s a pain. In the olden days, when you searched for words that Google thought you may have misspelt, Google would provide all the matches for what you typed in with, additionally, a link to a search for Google’s spelling correction. That is to say, if I searched for the word ‘stuipd’, it would show me all the matches …

Animal Crossing (Wii)

My wife bought me this for my birthday yesterday. Doesn’t she realise I lost three months of my like to the Gamecube version, and a whole year to the DS one? Surely that means I’ll be old and dead before the Wii iteration relents? Anyway, I moved in, met everyone, got my mortgage, went to the city, watched Dr. Shrunk, and entered myself into the fishing competition. As I left it, I was winning with a Black Bass of 27 …

Stupid DIY blind instructions

I had a bit of a tantrum yesterday, because the simple task of putting up a blind seemed beyond me. Of course, it wasn’t entirely my fault as several things conspired against me, including a wall with a metal plate behind it.¬¨‚Ć However, the B&Q instructions didn’t exactly help. Just look at the quality of this amazing diagram: (click it for a bigger, but not exactly more visible version) Ignoring the fact the screws provided needed 5mm holes, not 6mm, …

Helping the police with their enquiries

A policeman came and knocked on my door today. He wanted to ask me a few questions. He asked if I was [my name], and I said yes. Then he asked if I had anything to do with [local football club]. Obviously not! It was very odd. Apparently, there was an incident at said club yesterday, and they needed to question someone else who has my (pretty uncommon, especially locally) name, but I’m the only person in Norfolk with my …

Lego Batman (360)

Yesterday morning, I turned on my 360 and bought some Microsoft Points so I had enough to buy the GTA IV expansion “The Lost and Damned”. I then bought the expansion. Then set about downloading the 1.8GB it takes up. At about 70% through the download, I had to go out to the shops. While I was out, I saw Lego Batman cheap in the shop and bought it. And that’s all I played all weekend. Lost and Damned be …
