Assorted XBLA Demos (360)

Yes indeed – it is XBLA Demo Catchup time! 1942: Joint StrikeAs I’ve said before, shooters aren’t my thing really. However, I’m one for nostalgia and this is a great looking, and playing, remake of 1942. I’m tempted to get it, except I know I’ll be crap at it. I was crap at the demo as it is. SchizoidIt’s like Geometry Wars, only two player, and with no shooting. And you control both players. And it’s pretty good. Go! Go! …

Fillum review: Dogma (1999)

I’m a relative latecomer to Kevin Smith films. I’ve seen Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and know of (and have seen bits of) the others, but for some reason have never got round to watching the rest. So I saw Dogma today. The plot is suitably far-fetched. A down-the-line relative of Jesus is charged with the task of preventing two misguided fallen angels from unintentionally bringing about the end of everything, while God is missing, presumed dead, following a …

Resident Evil 4 (Wii)

Two more chapters down, don’t know how many to go because they’re not consistent when it comes to the numbering… Anyway, I seem to have ended up in some mines. With (dahn dahn daaaaahni!) a mine cart “level”! I’m also horribly short of ammo (although health is doing fine), and was so short on space I’ve sold my TMP and shotgun, but bought a Striker (which is better than a shotgun, but smaller). I seem to have a million grenades. …

A roundup of the week

I’ve been away all week, so not been playing a huge amount in the way of games. However, my holiday was partly affected by rain, so my DS did get an airing. On that, I started playing Puzzle Quest, which is a Bejewelled/Zoo Keeper clone in an RPG setting. So you have to battle orcs and things by matching gems, and have special powers and stats and stuff. It sounds totally ridiculous, but is actually somewhat amazing. I also played …

The demise of the Playstation 3

Or even, PLAYSTATION 3, as Sony had decreed that you must spell it in all caps. You know, like eleven year old idiots do when they post on online forums. Over here in the UK, the Playstation 3 (I’m not 11) will be released next Friday. Just like the 360 and Wii launches, the media is in a frenzy and retailers are being swamped with pre-order enquiries. Unlike the 360 and Wii launches, however, the enquiries are “Can I cancel …

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (GBA): COMPLETED!

After trying several times to kill Dracula, I gave up. The final boss has two phases: one where he appears and disappears, and has three attacks – poison clouds, laser beam, and meteor strike, and after that he flies around a lot, then turns into a load of bats and a giant eyeball. The first phase was easy, especially if I used the DSS card combo that effectively grants you double energy. The second, however, was not. Dodging Dracula flying …

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (360)

The first thing I did today, was go to Anvil’s castle to see the smithy and sell the few stolen items I had. I bought some cheap, crap, light armour from him, and then went outside and repeatedly summoned a demon, had it attack me, and then repaired the damage. The reason? To boost my armory skills. I’m now a Journeyman, which lets me repair enchanted items – just as well, as all my armour and some of my weapons …
