Creating an RSS feed using PHP

Doesn’t the title of this post just fill you with thoughts of fun and excitement? Of things you love to do on warm, sunny days? Of course it does. On Friday evening, I thought (as you do), “I know! I’m going to create my own RSS feed in PHP!”. And promptly did. Hurrah! Thing is, it turned out to be a lot harder than I expected, due to the lack of full and/or correct information on the internet. Here then, …

Too many games!

It’s that time of year again. Well, actually, it’s not, which is the problem. Traditionally, there’s slim pickings for new games around this time of year. The busiest times for releasing new titles (especially big titles) is normally around Christmas and often over Easter too, but the July-October period is like release death in the UK. Except this year. As well having Bioshock released this week already, there’s fahsands more out between now and the end of November. Before the …

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (PS2)

The story in this game really isn’t anywhere near as good as other GTA games. Everything you do seems to be for some tenuous reason. Vic isn’t into drugs, doesn’t want to deal in drugs, and yet almost every mission has him stealing drugs or lining up a drugs heist or something else to do with drugs. And if it isn’t drugs, it’s guns. All to earn money (which Lance seems to be spending faster than you can get it) …

Super Random Saturn Game Festival Of Strange (Saturn)

I fished out a load more Saturn games this evening. They included 2DO Arukotowa Sandoahru, which is a totally bizarre Wario Ware sort of game. You have to do lots of strange minigames to defeat foes. Things like Match The Easter Island Heads (why to the Japanese love Easter Island heads in their strange games?), Shoot The Meat In Half To Feed Two Lions, and The Fish Game That I Have No Idea How To Play. It’s fantastic, and seems …

Contact (DS)

Finally managed to drag myself back to this game. I don’t know why it’s been so hard to do so, as it’s a great game, if a little hard. Having said that, the baddie that I thought was a boss due to his difficulty last time I fought him, fell to my club with ease this time. Sadly, the real boss (a huge crystal monster) was waaaay harder. I had to level up my stats (you don’t level up yourself, …

Amped 3 (360)

Yes. I know I didn’t like the demo, OK? But I bought it anyway, OK? It was only £18 at Play so it was rude not to. Or something. Besides, my Oblivion disc was lonely. Imagine my surprise then, when I really enjoyed playing it. Did a few “missions”, including carving to impress someone, and then “doing” Weinerland, which was hilarious. I think I just need to come to terms with this not being a Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game, …

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow

Well, I wasn’t going to play it, but I found myself drawn into Julius Mode for a few hours. I’ve now got all three characters in my party, and have explored a substantial area of the map. I’ve also defeated a fair few bosses too, including Dmitrii and Dario. I made it to the giant fish boss, but I’d almost gone through the “wrong” entrance to it, so there wasn’t a save point nearby. Decided not to risk it (I …

Astro Boy: Omega Factor

This game is a bit bloody hard, isn’t it? I managed the green golum bit, and waded through more levels. Baddies so far have included flying fish, Easter Island heads on stone unicycles, ninja robots, a train, men in trenchcoats, bizarre Inca pigmies, and flying boats with rocket launchers. Some of the shooty sections are very much like Parodius, it would seem. Now I’m on level 7, and it’s boss-fight-a-go-go. It’s almost a SuckySuck(TM) bit, but since I haven’t fought …

Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages

Well, the South Seas seems the best place to go, after a clue from a Zora. After travelling round in circles in both the past and the present, I finally found the entrance, and within was a lost ship full of the Skull Pirates from Seasons. I was given the Tokey Eye, which fits a statue on the Tokey island I was at aaaaages ago in the game. Back there, and the statue opens, revealing a cave. After the cave, …

Atari Anthology

Played this for the first time today. It’s a collection of some 65 or so Atari 2600 games, and 15 or so Atari arcade games. The bizarre side-effect of this, is that there are two versions of many games (such as Pong, Battlezone and Asteroids). Anyway, I played Adventure (and completed it on Level 2) mainly to see if I could remember the routes through the mazes. I could, but I seemed to be far crapper at the game than …
