Advanced Lawnmower Simulator for Codebug

We got a Codebug this week. So naturally, I had to write Advanced Lawnmower Simulator for it. Because that’s what you do with new programming kit. If you want the code (and you can remix the code if you like – and run it in an emulator so you don’t need the actual device), then you can find it here. Just press the A button to start, then after the, uh, title screen, press A again. To mow, press A. …

Let me tell you a story about a Wii U delivery

Twas a balmy day in September. The Wii U had been announced, and I’d been pedalling all year to afford it: one was ordered from Zavvi. Cries of “No! Not Zavvi! You’ll never get it on time!” abound. But a £75 saving, and therefore a 75 mile saving, was too good it miss. Although it nearly was missed. Read on! Everything went quiet. Nothing happened for weeks. After all, the release date wasn’t until November the 30th. I preordered Mario …

The Nintendo Wii U

There’s no point denying it this time round. Fact is, I pre-ordered a Gamecube. I pre-ordered a Wii. I love both those machines, and I’ll love this. Even if only three decent Nintendo games ever come out for it and then it dies a horrible death. I don’t care – I want one. In fact, I’ve pre-ordered one already. Tch, eh?

The Rapture: A post about the PS3

I have, in the past, been quite vocal about my dislike for Sony products. Specifically, the Playstation, Playstation 2, and the PSP. All of which I own, all of which I hate. In fact, I have no idea why I even bought a PSP. I didn’t want one, and just had £125 in my pocket one day when I saw a white one for sale for £125. Fool and his money, etc. My main gripe with all of these, but …

Synology DS211j Review

Being the paranoid about backups person that I am, I’ve been looking for ages for a way of backing up my Mac to a device in my loft. For a while now I’ve been weighing up the various pros and cons of assorted NAS devices, and a month or so ago finally settled on the Synology DS211j. It came top, or near-top, in virtually every NAS review roundup I could find (at least all those in the £200-ish price range …

The 3DS is Here

Actually, it arrived yesterday. It’s very shiny. And very, very impressive. I’m amazed at the difference a bit of 3D makes to games – those on other consoles suddenly look very flat and “wrong”. Even just the subtly 3D menus, splash screens, and “screen furniture” make the games more alive. No doubt over the next few days I’ll post more of my thoughts, but here’s a brainjumble purge to be getting on with: The console Surprisingly small. It’s supposed to …

Explaining the bad thing

The other day I posted a cryptic picture of a bit of an online Asda order, but didn’t explain it. Of course, some of you guessed: I had indeed ordered a 3DS. And two games. Ssshh! It’s a secret to everybody! You (as in, James Luff) may be wondering how I pulled off this cheeky stunt with the £18 Rule in full effect. Well, here’s how. Warning! May contain maths: Base cost of 3DS on Asda’s website: £217 Cost of …

Why I’m buying a 3DS

Since the release of the original Game Boy Advance, I’ve leapt on every Nintendo console on (or before!) launch. Why should this change with the release of Nintendo’s new 3D fancy DS followup? Answer: it shouldn’t. And here’s 5 reasons why I’ll be getting one on release day: 5. The games. If you believe, they will come. The same is always true of Nintendo consoles. New Super Mario Bros, Professor Layton, Ouendan, Hotel Dusk, Another Code, Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. …
